Default Help Identifying my recent purchase

I just purchased a Used Formula ?? car and my intent is to make it into a Hobby and maybe for local shows etc. but not racing. It is likely from the 1960s or early 70s but I really don't know what it is as there are no markings or numbers on the frame anywhere that I can find. The headrest upholstery has a large "K" stamped into the vinyl. I know it belonged to a man named Jim Shillington in Indianapolis IN and he belonged to the Murat Shriners Indianapolis 500 Shrine Club. I know they are a group that parades cars. I have seen only pictures of two other chassis like this but no information on the manufacturer is given. On the body I can see where it had a sticker that indicated it was a "United States Auto Club Registered car in 1974. It has an 86" wheelbase. It currently has way oversized tires on it that don't look right but that's an easy fix. It has a six cylinder Corvair engine in it and it runs pretty well although I have not driven it yet. There are some unusual things about it as you can see from the pictures. It has polished Wishbone front suspension and chrome plated rear axle tubes and brake parts. The body is fiberglass and consists of 4 pieces, the front nose and top front past the driver, the rear engine cover and two lower side panels. There does not appear to be any body damage anywhere. The frame does not show any signs of past damage or modifications in the way of cutoff stuff or welding on stuff. Any help identifying the car is appreciated. I can provide more pictures if needed. Just a guess, but some type of “parade car”, especially with the diameter of the roll bar.

Not to mention the lack of bracing on the roll bar as well. Interesting the headlights installed, also an alternator. Early Corvair swing axles out back.

These guys make some impressive looking little cars. I wonder if they start with old formula F/V/C chassis...

Well he said he's going to show it, not race it. If a former owner was a Shriner it's pretty obviously a parade car, especially given the combination of corvair, FV, and FF components.

The indy Shriners have a web site with contact info and pics of the cars in the 500 festival parade. Suggest you contact them, ask about the former owner. I'd be surprised if you find the original owner alive, but you might find someone that knows him.

A lot of Indy car fabricators helped put those things together, that might explain the "K" in the headrest - King, Kunzma, etc.

When I saw the Corvair engine I though someone might have rebodied a Piranha sports racer, but I think those were still rear engined, instead of flipped like an FV.

    FC = Formula Corvair?

Looks like Jim passed away a few years back (1990), if this is indeed him:

I saw that car on Facebook marketplace, the seller thought it had some A.C. SV at least the firewall forward. I am interested in hearing more as you get into it. I hope you didn't pay anywhere close to the asking price.

If you added the proper roll-cage items/modifications, you could race it in A-mod solo events. Probably not competitive, but have some fun.

    Default Progress being made!

I'm making progress on my "Parade Car" that will be used as a Show Car. This is the one with the Corvair Engine. The intake and exhaust is all fake and is just a covering to look like the 1968 Ferrari 312 F1. I have really enjoyed working on this project over the last 3 months. The valve covers were carves out of sculpture foam and are ready to be painted an aluminum color next.

    Wow, that’s looking GREAT!

With the Corvair, probably more reliable than a real Ferrari, too.

Recent pictures seem to show a prancing horse on its nose.
Same idea being expressed here as in virtually Paddock.......keep 'em running, get 'em out there. Nice of you to do this for the vehicle.

    Default Exhaust tubing

I bought a box of 1 1/2" mandrel bends from Speedway Motors and cut and fit them myself. They were all TIG welded together to make my version of the Ferrari "Bundle of Snakes"

There's a guy in Indiana - Gary Babineau - that built a restoration of AJ Foyt's 4-cam powered Champ Dirt car. The components do a decent job of making a small block look like a cammer, similar to what this parade car is doing:
