Post Right Coast Race #2 at Mid-Ohio

Race 1 at PIRC is in the books. Awesome racing by all who attended and next up is racing at Mid-Ohio on July 3 - 5, 2020. Click here to register. Friday has three 30 minute test sessions throughout the day (not included in race entry fee). Saturday (Happy 4th of July) has two practice sessions in the morning followed by qualifying and the first race in the afternoon. Sunday morning, July 5, has our two races for the day. Current schedule shows us done by lunch time.

Same FRP COVID-19 guidelines still applicable. Also, Mid-Ohio (MO) has some additional guidelines. A few to point out besides mask wearing and social distancing are MO needs a form filled out prior to your arrival to be handed at the gate (click here for it), MO takes your temperature before entry, and all must enter thru Gate 3. Their documentation also states camping is allowed. Click here for all the MO COVID-19 protocols.

Since social gatherings are not encouraged, we will once again skip the evening social and poster signing. We will do a podium again for the feature race, possibly at our white tent like we did at PIRC. We may need to do things a bit different off track for COVID-19 however on-track the racing is the same fun as always!

The racing is great so sign up now to come race at Mid-Ohio on July 3 - 5, 2020.

    Stay healthy and safe,
Angela Slocum, David Gernert, and Will Velkoff

I think I just saw Mike Neylon entered. Outstanding!

Mike had a minor engine problem last year...like it exploded!

I go way back with Mike. Good to see him back in the game!

Default Video Highlights of Race #1

It was a hot and steamy weekend at Mid-Ohio with sunny conditions, temps in the low 90s, and high humidity. The field was smaller than at Pitt Race a few weeks ago, but the on track action was intense.

This video clip shows some of the highlights of the late Saturday afternoon Race #1 for RCFFS. Dan Pyanowski started on the pole with Phil 2nd and Dave Harmison 3rd. At the start, Dave jumps to the lead at the first turn with a late braking effort. Phil, Dave, and Dan battled for the lead for much of the race. Dave ended up dropping back a bit leaving Phil and Dan to battle for the lead in the closing laps. On the last lap, Dan spins and Phil cruises to the chequered flag.

And a special thanks to Dave Gernert and Angela Slocum for all the work they put in this weekend distributing results sheets, photography, and helping out in any way they could. Thank You!!! Your presence at the track is greatly appreciated.

On a bit of a down note, the weekend was not all fun and games. In Race #3 after lunch on Sunday, Dave Harmison and Greg Peluso got together at Turn 4 (China Beach). I was told both drivers exited their cars and appeared to be ok if a bit shaken up. I did not get a good look at Greg's car, but when the wrecker brought Dave's car back to his trailer, it was in pretty bad shape. Not one corner survived intact, control arms mangled, wheel rims bent, and wheel centers cracked. The nose cone and crush box were torn off. And the pedal box area of the frame looked a bit tweaked. Dave had some big lumps on his shins after he was able to take his drivers suit off back at his trailer. For such a tall guy shoehorned in that Royale, we are thankful that Dave is ok. Best wishes to Greg and Dave on speedy recoveries from any injuries they have received. I will leave it to Dave and/or Greg to provide any further commentary on the incident if they so wish.

Glad Dave and I assume Greg are OK. Emailed with Dave today and he seems to be a bit bruised up but on the mend. The Royale took a wild ride. Greg's car didn't get airborne or roll and endo like Dave's did, but there was substantial contact at pretty high speed. Hope Greg is OK.

As Mike mentions, it was a fun weekend and tested the stamina of drivers and crew. It was hot and lots of track time. what a great track. And echo the huge thanks to Dave and Angela!
