    Default AMB Rechargeable transponder

I've always had the hard-wired transponders but I remember buying this rechargeable one, just in case. Got it charged and all seems good.

My question - I've seen used ones for sale that state the green light flashes 4 times and should be good for 3-4 days. Mine blinks green 6 times. I'm assuming that's like new? Anyone know blink # vs remaining charge? I did read that 1 green blink means less than a full day.

Lastly, anyone know mounting bracket availability? I'll have to look more in my various boxes, in case I have that!

    TIA

Yes, one green blink is one days worth of charge. Typically a full charge gives 4 flashes and 4 days from when it comes off the charger (If it flashes 6 times, I would not think it will go 6 days though). Easy enough for you to test, charge it fully (red when charging, green when full) and leave it on the kitchen table. If the battery is getting down they wont quite do the weekend (charge til Thursday, drive to event Thursday evening, practice Friday, race Saturday and then halfway through Sunday it stops....). I leave it on charge in the car so that arrives fully charged.

I saw James' printed one but that's for the newer version, not the old one. Pegasus didn't show a holder for the old one. I'm sure I can make something sufficient.

I guess I'll report back when the blinks decrease. I have it here on my desk, blinking away....

Try Greg Parchman GPS Sports Timing. We used to rent transponders from him and he might have some of the old brackets

Leave it plugged into the charger without the power supply when transporting as this extends the battery life.

Per the AMB TransX manual ====
Sleep mode A charged/functioning transponder can be put into a sleep mode by placing it in an unplugged charging cradle or charger case. Normal functioning resumes when it is removed from the cradle. While in Sleep mode, the transponder will last up to 3 times longer during a single charge-discharge cycle. The sleep mode is designed to turn off the transponder’s signal output and save battery life. It is necessary to use the Sleep mode when travelling by airplane to adhere to airline regulations.

I am puzzled. An unplugged cradle means the 2 terminals are effectively connected to nothing. How does the unit know to go to sleep? To me it makes no sense. It is possible if the cradle is plugged in (but that is called charging and then some sort of maintenance/trickle mode (=sleep?)).

These guys are the experts and will put a new battery in for $60. In Australia.

Look under their spare parts section as well, useful stuff to know.

    They also say this

They say don't leave it in the cradle for long periods (it implies plugged in after the unit is fully charged; well, that is my read of it; others might differ).
