Default Charging at the auxiliary port

My car is wired with the battery disconnect on the negative side. I also have an Anderson plug to use a jumper battery. Is it ok to charge the battery by plugging the charger into the Anderson plug? My concern would be the Electronic tach, it is the only electronics in the car. It would be on with the disconnect switch being on and wasn't sure if the battery charger would mess with it.
    Thanks,
    Neil

Isn't your Anderson plug / jumper connected terminal to terminal with the battery? If so the disconnect switch will remain off during charging.

It depends how your car is wired. My car has the master switch wired so the jumper bypasses the battery- I can start and run the car on the jumper without any connection to the battery at all. To charge, which I do through the jumper, I have to turn on the master switch. The rest of the electronics are routed through the ignition switch, therefore isolated from the charger unless the switch is on.

I have seen different wiring in other cars.

My jumper is wired so I can turn over the engine without the rest of the electrics on, eg. to build up oil pressure, independent of the onboard battery.

To charge the onboard I have a short flylead on it with a Tamiya-type connector (good to around 10amps) and the corresponding connector on a charger, so I can charge the battery in place without the problems of getting clips onto the terminals.

Thanks for the replys. My car is wired so I can start and run the car with the jumper and not use the onboard battery. My battery is in the nose and was hoping to be able to charge without taking the body and nose off. Running the tach and oil pressure light off the ignitions switch makes sense. I could leave the oil pressure light on the main battery disconnect as to have a visual light to know the switch was on.
The pig tail off the battery would work also but I'm trying to keep things simple and have as few extras as possible

I have the Battery Tender pigtail coming off the battery in my DB6 and my March VFF. Nothing seems simpler to me than to put it on the trickle charger when I get back to the pit.

I use a 50a Anderson plug on the charger and plug into the jumper plug, turn the master on and charge it. My cars have Braille batteries so it’s a specific charger, but you can do it with any. If you have clips on your charger, make an Anderson plug with a couple of short wires (put some red tape on the positive).
