Wow! That was a hot fire! The remains of the AMX hardly can be seen. Nothing much left of the Sweet little Reynard either. Very sad to see.

I haven't been able to get in. Security is now requiring a waiver, but can't or won't tell me how to get one. Someone did get in and posted a pic on Facebook. In the foreground is an almost new F-350 Platinum. My area was to the right of the door against the wall and was 28' x 45'. The AMX was between the metal frame and the tall wall.

Finally got into the bay. It was even worse that I imagined. Only one thing was salvageable. One of the Studebaker hub cabs on the Reynard's trailer. I think I'll have it re-chromed, painted and mounted on a walnut plaque.

Love the idea and the attitude! Not "liking" the fact that it was worse than you imagined or that only one thing was salvageable.

I am so very sorry to see this! I heard about it through the grapevine (I've been under a rock for a while, barely doing race car stuff at all), but the photos are heartbreaking to see.

Heartbreaking pictures. The Reynard really suffered from the sprinkler pipes landing on it. Maybe the crank could be saved?

It would take days to dig the Reynard out of the rubble. I would rather have the crank out of the AMX. The 390 forged cranks are much harder to come by than a Scat crank for a Kent.

My son took these pictures from the warehouse on 4/30/20. He lost an '89 Supra Turbo which had a ton of money in it, a beautiful '86 Corolla GTS with a fresh 4A engine and long list of mods ready for paint, a friend's Miata, my Caldwell D10 FSV, a completely restored '80 Yamaha YZ125G with only 12 minutes on the engine that I raced motocross with years ago. We also lost tools, Tennsmith sheet metal equipment, engines, transmissions including Hewlands, vintage Lola parts, too many sets of wheels to list. NOTHING survived......

These pictures bring back memories.

30 years ago next month my wife and I lost our home in what was the largest loss of homes in a single wild fire.
Over 500 homes in less than 3 hours. Sadly, Oakland surpassed us the next year.

These fires act like furnaces. Ours was measured at 2500F at certain points. Cooking. Everything. Relentlessly.
When we went in we found steel and iron tortured. Concrete seeming intact turned to dust.
I found books in a stack that appeared dirty. You could read the spine! But they were totally ash.

Although it was devastating, we were lucky. Just starting out. It changed our view of 'stuff' permanently.
My wife (8mos pregnant) and I got out just in time. It took a while but we learned that was most important.

I'm sorry for your loss and thankful no one was hurt.
