If you want to drive a formula car then depending on how fast you want ot go FV is relatively inexpensive, FF and FC are faster but cost more.

Whatever you decide I totally agree with the recommendations on a pro school and then try to rent whatever you are considering.

I jumped in at the deep end many years ago and my learning curve was very steep although I was laways way behind. Do not make the same mistake.
Well I will take it much slower now. I'm like that too though. Shoot first ask questions later lol. Karting or autocross does not seem like a bad idea so I can build a foundation. I love formula cars but I dont think the formula vee is very popular in my area. Cant find much on it. I would love to race a formula car or a spec ford racer. Those seem most appealing. I think as mentioned above if I bend up a car its gunna cost boat loads to even fix it. Not to mention all the parts I could have broken.

The wheel had been invented. They had electricity. Looks like maybe a 63 Galaxie in the back ground. Didn't know 1/4 midgets still looked like that in the mid 60's.

Yeah, it wasn't until around the mid-70s they started going to the full sprint-type cages. This was '66 I think, the Racecraft-style cars were nearly obsolete (but still capable of winning, as you see!)

I'm just guessing Banzai is a mid 20s guy with a spare high mileage old jap car in the driveway, who used to turn wrenches with his father in the past. He has the bug, but not a tremendous budget...

I say go the autocross route. No need for rollhoops, etc. Will get the feel for motorsports. Will find out if he likes servicing the car before and after. Won't totally destroy the car or himself. Doesn't have to buy karts, trailers, etc.

So many of us started our journey in a parking lot avoiding cones!

Autocross is a lot of fun for little money.

So glad to hear it. Back in 1970, two days after HS graduation I lost a good friend and he hurt others because of it. Immediately after that I started going to the track instead.

When I lived in VA a few years back there were lots of Autocross events and Track days at the near local tracks:
    Track Days:
    VIR
    Summit Point Raceway

This is how I go started back in the day and not to mention Lemons and Chump Car racing is another way to see if racing is for you or not.

Now once I really decided to race I attended several events in my area and then picked a class that I could afford.

    Hope this help out some.
