Just read an article that was published in 1975 in "Formula" magazine. Funny how it could be written today. Change a few prices and it sounds 100% like current discussions regarding the cost of racing and SCCA responses. And this was written 45 years ago. And is as relevant today as then.

Points to consider:

1.) Column talks about how tire costs for an FF car is outrageous! (Sound familiar?)
2.) Mentions that one team spends 30% of their budget on tires! (Sound familiar?)
3.) SCCA will not go to a spec tire. (Sound familiar?)
4.) Nothing short of a massive pressure campaign by the drivers will move SCCA to do anything. (Sound familiar?)
5.) SCCA will never make a change unless the drivers revolt. (Sound familiar?)

Points?

1.) Racing was always, and is, expensive. Live with it.
2.) SCCA is not very pro-active. Needs a strong push by the "owners" (us) to get changes on a significant level.
3.) The arguments/complaints have not changed in 45 years.
4.) Maybe "we" need to learn that things are the way they are and have been for 45 years. And maybe that is just how it goes.

Anyway--Just found it humorous that "what was is what is".

People sure did live with it, that's why we are lucky to have 20 cars for the Runoffs with only 2 or 3 having a shot at winning it rather than a stacked 70+ car field. If we would have listened to the cost escalation concerns 30 years ago maybe it would not be in the "too late to do anything about it" phase now.

The complaints might have parallels, but at least back then you have 200 people making them rather than 10 people today. Tomorrow, even less.
