    Default Next cleaning problem

Anyone find anything that will remove the double sided tape from the wheel weights without 1) hours of elbow grease, 2) messing up the finish of the wheels or 3) stinking up the shop?

Original manufacturer finish? Or painted with rattle can spray paint?

Have you tried wax and grease remover, goofoff, or wd40 ? Those usually wont attack paint. The xylene based carb cleaner will remove adhesive and any greasy residue but also will remove spray paint. It usually will not remove original wheel finish but definitely will have an odor.

Know any drag racers or RC plane/car folks? Nitromethane removes sticky stuff pretty well.

Regular rubber valve stem on drill works good and is safe on painted wheels or parts.

Use a screwdriver or scraper being very careful not to scratch paint and get the weights ripped off. Don't worry about the amount of foam and glue left over. Just get the weight off and out of the way. Roll the wheel so the left over foam and glue are at the bottom. Have some of this GooGone on hand and then spray the foam patch with a good bit of this stuff. If you can let it set for a few hours (or overnight), you will likely be able to wipe almost all foam and glue away with a rag. Or, I keep the light duty ScotchBrite pads in the shop and you may have to run over it a little with one of these.

I have always just soaked them in WD40. /the soaking part is critical. Sounds like there are a lot of great ways to do this.

I spray Tarminator Tar & Sap Remover and scrape the foam off using an old credit card or the plastic cap itself as a scraper.

I always use Goo Gone. Spray it then let it soak for a few minutes.
Then use a plastic body filler type scraper. Usually comes off fairly easily.

3M makes a "wheel" that is kind of rubbery that is used to remove the double sided tape that holds body side moldings on. I have used it on painted cars without damaging the paint one iota.

I use something like this on the daily at work. Removes wheel weight adhesive from all different types of wheel surfaces and finishes without any damage.

I have found plain old gas works just fine and seems to work on any kind of adhesive and guess what you always have that!

I use one made by Pyroil, I imagine any brand would be fine.
