I agree, but government insurance is not as efficient, but private insurance makes up for that with the profit motive.

There is a good argument for catastrophic insurance only, but I think preventative care is too built into our society to go back.

on the other hand - why does my auto insurance not pay for me to go to a refresher driving school any more than my dental insurance pays for me to have a cleaning....

Agreed. Too many people think they're getting a good deal by paying additional premiums for preventive care. If the medical costs exceeded the premiums the insurance companies would lose money. We just need insurance to cover expenses we can't absorb ourselves. At least we can still have HSAs.

Default Market goes up. Market goes down.

I am impressed at how this thread has wandered off the OP's question.

For a definition of 'thread drift', look no further.

Did somebody mention drifting? I believe it takes some skill to do well, I just don't believe in subjective competitions that involve judges and cars.

In general - yes - but I am sure there would be some surprising subsets.

The fact we are all on a racing site means we have something in common - hope springs eternal!

. . . and likely some surprises about how far to the right some can be on some topics while far left on others and vice versa.

I also have no tolerance for the intolerant
