Default FX-FM | The State of Formula Mazda

Thank you all for your Formula Mazda support. There has been a lot of confusion and upheaval regarding the changes from FM to FX.

We have had extensive conversations with SCCA Staff, Board of Directors, Club Racing Board, etc. and have come to the final conclusions and agreements with SCCA regarding the FM class in 2020.

    • FM will remain part of the newly developed FX Class
    • FM will be awarded a Championship at the RunOffs, if there are 10+ FM Competitors.
    • There will not be any Balance of Power adjustments in the FX class - the intent is to keep the FM running as a Spec "sub-class" for as long as possible
    • We have negotiated our FM Specific Contingencies to remain (see below) - all other SCCA Contingencies will be determined by FX finishing positions.
    • FM Tire Marking Rule has been suspended per Racing Memo 20-02 *The Goodyear 470 is still the 'spec' tire and is required to run. Tires will no longer be marked, meaning that you do not have to race on the tires that you qualified on.
    • Formula Mazdas will be required to run the FX classification decal with weight. See photo below of our decals - and order a complimentary set.

Remember the intent of "FX" class is to be an incubation class. It is in our best interest to keep the FM unchanged and to increase our participation numbers. We encourage you to get out there and race your Formula Mazda. SCCA participation numbers are tallied by the entries in SCCA Majors/SuperTour Events, and we will be tasked with tracking those numbers going forward.

In recognition of your dedication to Formula Mazda, and as a token of our continued support of the Formula Mazda, we have reactivated our Formula Mazda Parts Credit Contingency Program for all SCCA Majors Events. Please see below.

Thank you and See you at the Races.

If FM participation numbers go up, can FM be declared successfully "incubated" by next year?

And, has a hard number been established of average majors car count that will spring FM from FX?
