Default Hall of Fame - Dave and Sherrie Weitzenhof

Let me be the first to offer my congratulations to Dave and Sherrie on their very well-deserved induction into the SCCA Hall of Fame.

    From today's announcement:

    Dave and Sherrie Weitzenhof
Dave Weitzenhof’s record over more than 50 years of SCCA road racing demonstrates his skill as both a driver and technician. Overall, he has seven SCCA National Championships and was presented with the Road Racing Drivers’ Club Mark Donohue Award in 1972, as well as the 1977 SCCA President’s Cup trophy. But as Dave himself admits, none of that would’ve been possible without the help of his wife, Sherrie Weitzenhof, who has been by his side and an instrumental part of the “team” throughout half a century of racing. The fact that Sherrie is officially recognized as a “Friend of the Road Racing Drivers’ Club” proves that point. Furthermore, Sherrie supported the SCCA NeOhio Region by organizing many events, including the successful and long running Competition Clinic, and she chaired the NeOhio Hall of Fame committee.
To his credit, Dave earned four SCCA Runoffs wins in the highly competitive Formula Ford class, as well as a pair of Formula Continental Runoffs victories and a Formula Vee SCCA National Championship. Beyond that, he has won far too many SCCA races to count. Outside the car, Dave was an accomplished engineer with Bridgestone/Firestone and has numerous patents to his name. Throughout his involvement in SCCA racing, Dave openly shared insights on car setup and vehicle dynamics, as well as his tire expertise with fellow racers. Some of that know-how was deployed while serving as a test driver for development of the Sports Renault program, which evolved to become Spec Racer Ford -- one of SCCA’s most popular car classes in road racing.

    WOW, fan-damned-tastic!!!

    Congrats to you both!!!

I was there for his (Edit: their) Vee victory, and I think all of the FF ones, too.

Great to see the Weitzenhof Legend honored — finally!!! — he and Sherrie were the blueprint of my Missus and myself in lots of ways.

    ONE HUNDRED THUMBS UP!

Congratulations to you both. I can think of no other husband and wife duo who have so successfully demonstrated such a truly enviable partnership both on and off the track. True sportsman and genuinely wonderful people. "back in the day" I have personally witnessed Sherrie, confront SCCA T&S with "her" timing sheet to correct the grid order, even if it was detrimental to Dave's grid position.

I can't wait to see you back at the track for the FRP race weekends!

The relationship has been perfect for Sherrie - it keeps Dave out in the garage instead of driving her crazy in the house!

    Congrats, you two!

Completely well deserved honor for 2 true racers. Have a great memory of watching old runoffs videos with them waiting out the rain at Atlanta last year during the FRP race weekend.

Best decision the SCCA has made in years.

Almost all know of the contributions Dave has made as a senior advisor on Apexspeed, so it is easy for all to understand his nomination.
But, many of us close to the Weitzenhofs over the years know the dedication Sherrie has had supporting the their program for over 50 years. It is so fitting that she is being recognized as an important part of the team. They represent so many other husband/wife teams in SCCA Club Racing, and not just racers but volunteer worker teams also.

Congrats to Dave and Sherrie! This was an excellent choice! I wouldn't be surprised to see Dave's name come up a few times in the Formula Vee Hall of Fame Committee meetings!

    Default wide reach

As a Canadian FF competitor I can tell you that Dave and Sherrie have plenty of fans north of the border as well. From the heyday of FF and his visits to Mosport he has always been the guy to watch. Great news and a big thank you for all the years of entertainment and the knowledge passed out freely to us all. Looking forward to 2020 and the continued success of Team Weitzenhof. Legend..

As Chairman of the Selection Committee this nomination gave me great pleasure as Dave and Sherrie were amongst the first competitors I met in 78 competing in the AFFA FF Pro Series. Fierce competitor and just good folks.

Add my kudos for Dave and Sherrie. Watched them both at the ARRC this year having a 'blast from the past' in CF in a great 50th celebration outing. This is a perfect example of a 'great pair' in SCCA racing .

It's about time! I have enjoyed watching him back in the day, and I have benefited from his on-APEX advice, which saved me a blown motor once. I was pitted near him at the 50th / ARRC at Road Atlanta, and got to talk to him a bit. Really nice guy. I'm glad he finally got recognized for his pretty incredible racing accomplishments.

WOW! At least as good as Sherrie's and my induction into the SCCA HoF is reading all these great comments about us. And more than a few of you were instrumental in making that happen.

I never pictured myself as SCCA HoF material, but I think that Sherrie and me being inducted together is fabulous. We are definitely a team in every sense of the word.

We were out of the country on vacation (just got home today) when SCCA published the HoF list for this year, or I'd have commented earlier.

I got my 1st racecar (used FV) in 1968. It had #67 on it. We thought that was our lucky number, seeing how Sherrie and I got married in '67. So we've been using it, with a few exceptions, ever since.

Thanks for taking my wise crack in kind.

Wow, 52 years! Congrats on that, too! 41 years together for my superior half and I, though we lived in sin a spell first.

Enjoy the Award, both o' Ya!
