I always use Idemitsu oil for the engine and the pre-mix. Full synthetic 20W-50 for the engine.

Is the premix a synthetic or standard? For now I used a stihl 2 stroke oil I had just for garage idling.

I saw some new fancy 2 stroke oils that are for snowmobiles synthetic though which seemed odd to me.

Gentlemen, thanks for the feedback, but to get back on track, the question was what ENGINE oil to use, in the bellhousing, if that helps with any ambiguity LOL...

There was going to be a follow up question regarding oil to premix in the fuel; back in the day the pro series provided premixed fuel, I don't personally know what was in it; anyone know for sure?

    thx again

Redline 20-50W syn or Mobil1 15w/50 for the engine.
Been using Redline two-stroke for the premix.

    Another oil question.

Level, 6-6.5 inches in sump says the manual.

Is that running? And warm? Or warm and off?

Warm and off and it depends which oil tower you have. the original and the later ones are not the same height

IIRC, the "depends which tower you have" comment was because guides have often referenced oil filled to a level below the top of the tower, vs from the bottom of the sump. IIRC it's 9.5 inches from the top of the tower you have - hopefully someone can confirm.

the reason to measure from the top is that it can be difficult to probe to the bottom sometimes as things are in the way.

Thanks guys thought it was odd it would matter from the bottom.

I am using a small rod so I think I got to the bottom but it's hard to tell if I'm hitting something else or not.

I'll double check from the top too.
