Default Penske damped canister “cap” replacement?

    Penske damper canister...

Does anyone have a good solution to cracking Penske 8100 canister “caps”? I have a small pile of them that have cracks radiating from the air fitting and a new one cracked this summer. One appears to have had a replacement installed that was machines from a piece of aluminum. I might just do that unless others have better ideas.

Not sure what sort of solution you're looking for, but cracking very likely due to schraeder valve being installed too tightly.

Agreed. Not by me. I have not tightened any. Maybe that is a better question: is this cracking a common problem? I assumed yes given the number of cracked caps I have from previous owner.

Or maybe it was just a common problem for that previous owner. I'd never heard of that and the Penske's on my DB6 have been rebuilt once or twice and don't have that issue.

Right. I guess this is what I needed to hear... My assumption was wrong... I'll now assume that not over tightened, it won't be a problem.

Aren't there two versions of the valve? Could that be an NPT valve screwed into a straight thread cap? Looks to have Teflon tape and thread sealant on it to stop leakage.
