    Default Jay Ivey

    We ran our vintage Alexis Formula Ford at Watkins Glen last weekend in the SVRA event, and, due to an engine problem, the prospect of going home was starting to set in. I shared our woes with Tony Jiminez who was paddocked across from us. Moments later a guy approaches me and introduces himself as Jay Ivey. Certainly known of Jay but never met him.

    In short, Jay saved our weekend. He spent hours helping us diagnose the problem which turned out to be a bent intake valve. As it turned out, Jay had the parts and tools to replace the valve. Without him we would have never returned to the racing surface last weekend. And, the guy is humble. He would only take money for the parts and nothing for his time. I value his knowledge and experience way more than the parts. I forced him to take more cash.

    The fact that he is willing to help a total stranger in the racing community is inspiring. We certainly don't see this attitude in most businesses these days. Try getting attention from an online vendor.

    You know where my motor is going for the next rebuild...Ivey Engines.

    Many thanks to Jay.

    I saw Jay do something similar for a competitor next to us at the SVRA Indy race. Top notch fellow right there. Its good to know that one of the "old Guard" engine builders that is still around is such a good guy! He definitely has my business in the future!!

    In these days of almost exclusively only reading bad vendor experiences, and almost never the positive ones, this is how we can all support the good guys.

    I congratulate you for posting this. Three hundred thumbs up.

    Default Ivey family

    Few years ago was racing my Titan at Portland, it went dead just at pit entry. Pushed my car back to the pits went into the trailer to change. But before I was done Jay and Colin Ivey had my carb apart and found the sinking float. First class family!

    Jay and his boys are class acts and will do whatever it takes to support FF racing. They are always at the track supporting their customers and as pointed out in this example - helping anyone they can. Oh and they build damn good engines as well. Thank you for your post as we need to continually do more to support and highlight the people that do so much for our sport. Thank you Jay Ivey !

    I had a similar situation at Indy this summer. Jay changed out a cracked valve spring keeper. I'd never met Jay before. What a gentleman!

    Jay saved my weekend last fall at Portland. We went through three Bosch condensers in two weekends, not understanding what was going on. The condensers were made in Turkey. Jay said "Find a German one!" I found one with "made in germany" frayed wire and rusty. "Use that one!" Worked perfect.

    Gents;

    Jay has bailed me out with overnight fixes several times. One of the most loyal families I have ever had the pleasure to know. Simply first cabin.

    Default Jay

    Short Jay story;
    Racing at Portland a year or two ago with 'Crossflow' FF group; we were all invited to Jay Ivey's shop where he supplied some exceptional food. While partaking of said free food I wandered outside the shop where I saw a very nice Lola FF (not sure what year). A guy appeared next to me and said it was his car (I had never met Jay so it took me a couple of minutes to realize who I was speaking with). The conversation went something like this; "So you are going to race it"? "No"! "So you are restoring it for resale"? "No"!
    Jay explained that Carl Haas (Lola importer for many years) had given or sent him so much work over the years he bought the car as a memento of Carl's generosity!
    Some people get autographs, some photographs; Jay bought one of 'Carl's cars'!
    Next visit (I will certainly be at Ivey Engines again and not for the free food!) I will not be surprised to see a Lola FF hanging on his wall!
