Default The Golden Part 2 at Road Atlanta

    Hi,

We are now just inside two months away from the Oct 30 load in for the final event on the 2019 Right Coast Formula F Series presented by American Pen Company at Road Atlanta. The Golden Part 2 50th Anniversary of Formula F celebration will take place in conjunction with the American Road Race of Champions at historic Road Atlanta on November 1st thru the 3rd.

Our hosts for the weekend, the Atlanta Region of the SCCA, have provided us with a schedule that will see us qualifying for the celebratory races on Saturday afternoon after the ARRC program. Sunday will see us taking to the track for a Club Formula F only 15 lap race in the morning, a Formula F only 15 lap race early afternoon and then a combined Formula F and Club Formula F 20 lap all comers race Bob Melvin’s American Pen Company 50th Anniversary of Formula F feature race.

This will be the last anniversary race this season where ALL Formula F cars can celebrate the 50th anniversary of our class. Ford Kent/Cortina or Honda powered, slicks or treads, as long as your car is SCCA legal you are welcome to come race with us. All VMC Licenses happily accepted as well !

Almost 50 years to the month after Road Atlanta first hosted a FF National Championship race, over Thanksgiving weekend of 1970, and continuing through 1993, Road Atlanta’s long and storied Formula F history continues to this day. In that time many Formula F drivers have progressed to higher levels of motorsport. The first, at Daytona in 1969, and second, right here at the then brand new Road Atlanta in 1970, SCCA National Championship driver, Skip Barber, of course founded the famous racing school. Jimmie Vasser, the 1986 National Champion went on to win the CART Indy Car Championship in 1996. Eddie Miller, the 1972 and 1974 Champion also won a Super Vee title and moved up into Indy cars. And it isn’t just those who won the FF National Championship at Road Atlanta. Runoffs FF participant Michael Andretti went on a fabulous career in Indy Car as well as a stint as a Formula 1 driver for Team McLaren. Chip Robinson starred with the Jaguar team in IMSA. Dennis Firestone, the 1976 Champ also acquitted himself well at the Indy 500 and in Indy car racing. Double FF National Champion Bob Lobenberg (80 & 82) was a Trans Am star. Dave Weitzenhof is a four-time (77, 79, 81 & 87) Road Atlanta National Champion in FF. As well Dave has as a FV title and two FC wins to bring his total of seven SCCA National Championships. Dave is expected to run this years event in a Zink Z10, similar to the car he won with in 1977 and 1979.

These drivers and many others used what they learned on the challenging Road Atlanta circuit to hone their driving skills and move up the motorsport ladder.

So, in this 50th year of Formula F in the United States we have one final opportunity to celebrate this class that we love at one of the most historically significant tracks in the country. Registration is due to open on MotorsportReg.com on October 1. We urge you to enter as soon as the site opens.

We will be following up with more details regarding the weekend as we get a little closer so please stay tuned.

    Thanks,

    Joe Marcinski

It's been on my calendar all year . Road America 50th already exceeding original budget so let's hope no more surprises. I'd probably head down either way crew or race.

My car was bare chassis 2 months ago. I am working on the body right now. The garage is filled with fiberglass dust. Did I ever mention how much I like doing bodywork...

I've seen your fiberglass work results before. If you enjoy it, you can come work on my car.

    Joe,
That is a TARGET date. We are waiting on Sanction numbers from Topeka. I'll open registration as soon as we get those back and can get the proper links for the final Supps and Schedule online. The date might have to be delayed.. or be able to be moved up. Just depends. We'll get it opened ASAP.

Looking forward to a great event!

Still trying to put some driver deals together, but it is on our schedule, and I have rooms booked.

If any southern Ontario racers are interested, I have lots of good used tires to share and may be able to help with transport.

    Hi Tom,

Regarding your question on acceptance of vintage organization vehicle logbooks, I am not sure what the answer is. I have sent off this question to our hosts, the Atlanta Region to get an answer. As soon as they get back to me I will post it here.

The drivers who have attended Right Coast races in the past have been drivers who run both SCCA and the occasional vintage event. So they have had an SCCA logbook. In the couple of vintage events that I have run; they have accepted my SCCA logbook, but had me go through their tech process just like all the vintage cars. The vintage tech I have experienced is much like the SCCA used to be; bring the car to the tech shed, check the drivers gear, seatbelts, fire system, wheel bearing tightness, poke and probe for loose jam nuts and other fasteners, etc.

That type of inspection on happens in SCCA when we get our annual inspection stamps.

So please give us a few days and we will have an answer for you.

    Best regards,

    Joe Marcinski

    Default 50th Anniversary Eligibility Question

    Hi,

We have heard back from our hosts at the Atlanta Region regarding the eligibility of cars that do not have SCCA logbooks.

In order to run the ARRC (American Road Race of Champions) portion of the program; the cars must have an SCCA logbook with a current annual SCCA inspection. Logbooks can be issued and annual tech inspection performed at the track. If this is necessary, please let us know in advance so that we can advise the tech crew of Atlanta Region.

There is NO SCCA logbook requirement for vintage/historic cars that want to run the 50th Anniversary of Formula F portion of the program. We will require and will be checking for helmets and seat belts that meet current SCCA requirements for those cars.

I hope that answers the question that Tom Dalrymple had asked (thank you Tom).

There is a track sponsored test day on Thursday, October 31 (Happy Halloween). The ARRC weekend begins on Friday, November 1 with practice and qualifying sessions for the ARRC program. The ARRC races take place on Saturday, November 2. The 50th Anniversary of Formula F portion of the program includes a qualifying session on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday, November 3, we will have a 15 lap Club Formula F only race, a 15 lap Formula F race and a 20 lap Bob Melvin's American Pen Company 50th Anniversary of Formula F feature race for all comers.

We are hoping that registration will be open on September 24, but we will let you all know as soon as we can confirm that.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

We are now up to 23 entries in just a little over one day. Thanks to all of you for entering. Super happy to see our friend Keith Hall making the trip all the way from Colorado. Let's keep it going!

Last chance to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Formula F. A chance to race with two (as of this moment) FF National Champions, John Robinson and Dave Weitzenhof.

We have some Hoosier Tires to give away along with some other nice door prizes. We have 50th Anny medals and crystal trophies for the podium finishers.

Atlanta Region is still waiting on Topeka approvals before the schedule and supps can be released, but we will let you know as soon as they are available.

    See you at the track,

I appreciate the encouragement but unfortunately it just had

I am still curious about making the event to crew - I’ve always wanted to help on a pro team so if anyone is aware of help needs please pm me.
