Okay all of you Max lovers, explain to me how that was not 100% Max's fault. And in that explanation I'd like to hear how you'd think any sanctioning body would view that contact. Can't wait.

Completely Max's fault. I was not surprised that he was screaming and blaming Kimi over the radio for it, too. He will not win a World Championship until he stops doing stupid, reckless things like that. He needs to grow up a lot.

I think they should punt him back to the back of the grid for the next race. Kimi's race was completely ruined as well.

I agree, but in post-race coverage, Max did own up to the fact that there was no way Kimi would have expected him to be there. So maybe he will eventually learn to not go for every marginal opening.

BTW, I've been on both sides of that sort of incident...several times...

Hopefully I've learned to avoid (most of) the ones that were my fault. But sometimes the opening looks huge, and then it just disappears. If it works you're a hero; if not, you're the goat.

That opening was always going to close. We were just talking about this Saturday after our race at our track, one guy dove on the inside of a similar corner and nearly got smucked, he went off instead. The gap was always going to close it was basically never there.

The first corner, anything can happen. You have to consider if closing the door is the correct thing to do knowing who you are trying to stop. Raikkonen was never going to finish in front of Verstappen, why risk being crashed out?

    Default ...just saying...

...Like Dave W said...I've been on both sides of the argument...

    ..

But I also believe that Max's attempt was much closer to the latter photo, the former one...

OTOH, if Kimi leaves the door open, there is (usually) more chance that someone will try to go through it, resulting in a similar incident. And I think Kimi didn't think anyone would be there - obviously a mistake in judgement. Of course, Max's judgement was worse than Kimi's, mostly because he could see ahead. Seeing behind is obviously much more difficult when you're in thick traffic.

One doesn't have to be racing very long to wind up in either situation. Been there, done that, spent lots of time repairing fiberglass and mechanical....

On edit: My driving school instructor once told us grasshoppers, "Whatever happens on track, get used to the fact that it's your fault."

    Default summary

Max (I'm not a fan) has been remarkably mistake free, all year.

Kimi (I am a fan) did not have room to move over to his left if he had wanted to give more room.

    Racing incident.

    YMMV

    Yep, pretty much.

Heard near Siebkins on BRIC Friday eve in 2001, "I think it's time to depaht to the bahhh."

Not naming names, the bloke was from Upper Coddington or somewhere.
