    What is the material? Brass Bronze Copper Stainless?

    What is the grid size that should be used?

    Default Wire Cloth

    Brass is the usual material, around 30 mesh. McMaster-Carr has it. Part no. 9223T86; $12.44/sq. ft.

    Go to aviaid oil pans and look at billet pans. Screen and louver ideas. I have been using their tubular pickup screens on some projects.

    Default screen for pick ups

    The Aviad products are well made and depending on if you want to make them, have the screen only very inexpensively. They also have directional screen that is used for a scraper material for oil pans. Didn't see it listed but you can ask CS for it.

    Default Wire Cloth

    I would be very careful if you use 30 mesh screen for you scavenge pickup. This fine of a mesh will be prone to accelerated plugging because of too fine of an opening. Oil pickups are normally in the 10-16 mesh range with a wire diameter of .028- .018 diameter. 30 mesh x.012 has an open area of 40%. 10 mesh x .028 has an open area of 51.8%. 16 mesh x .018 has an open area of 50.7%. You will also find that the 30 mesh will collapse a lot easier from lack of strength. I would suggest using 304 stainless instead of brass as it can be soldiered as brass can and is much stiffer.

    The "mesh" that Jerry Kehoe mentions is actually expanded metal. It, also, is available from McMaster. When ordering make sure you DO NOT get "expanded and flattened". The scraping ability of the material is almost non existent and will do a poor job of scraping oil. Also, when installing there is a "sharp" and a "dull" side that is directional. BE careful of the direction you install it. Just my $0.02 and over 40 years designing and building wire weaving looms and producing wire cloth in wire ranges of .020" thru .375" diameters
