Default Fauza pulls off Hat trick

Mauro Fauza Completes Hat Trick at Sebring

From Pawleys Island,SC. 29585 June 19,2019- The SouthernFormulacar.com F2000 championship presented by American Racer Tires and Primusracingparts.com recently completed rounds 5 & 6 of the series at the famed Sebring International Raceway. Well actually only round 5 was completed while in the car and round 6 was scored according to SCCA rules. Sundays afternoon race was cancelled due to very threatening weather so rules state that if the race can not be run due to weather that results are awarded according to where the cars would have started the race.
Although the 2nd race was not run the first race certainly was completed and it was one for the history books. Mauro the Animal Fauza pulled off the rare racing feat that all drivers strive for,the glorious Hat Trick. The New Jersey driver won three championship races in a row. After capturing back to back wins at the previous event at Palm Beach. Mauro Fauza in the LTD Motorsports entry started in the 2nd position and took his 3rd win in a row. Doug Stewart in the Low Country Processing machine took his first pole position of the year. He was set to have a great race but unfortunately collected a orange grid cone on the first lap which blocked his radiator and overheated the engine. Doug just barely made the half way point and collected very valuable championship points but it may have been at a cost as the engine reached dangerous temperatures. John Herscher also collected a cone on the first lap and it destroyed his front wing and eliminated him from the race. Herscher was really upset as he has been the Sebring master winning several races at this event. In fact it was one of those bizarre races where many cars in the field had problems which eliminated several from competition. Jim Johnson is well known for his tremendous speed at Sebring but his car stopped running on the 2nd lap and he pulled off the course and was unable to restart the car. Meanwhile , Mauro was putting down some incredibly fast lap times so it appears that the American Racer tires are really quite impressive as Mauro was running some of the fastest times ever seen at the Sebring Short course. This is the harder compound from American Racer but you wouldnt have know it from Mauro's brilliant performance.
Meanwhile as several drivers dropped from competition such as Chris Scharnow and Fletcher Wulff with bizarre mechanical problems. Scharnow had high hopes for another great finish as he again was able to bring in his father Mike Scharnow and Reggie Cape to help tune the car but he lost first gear on the first lap so he could do nothing but nurse the car around as long as possible. Reggie Cape the 2nd generation engineer is helping Chris to really show is true potential so it was such a shame for something like that to happen. Fletcher Wullf was having a great run in 2nd place not far behind Mauro when the engine cover came loose and he was forced to come into the pits. It was a very unusual circumstance for Fletcher. All of the drama was going on and unnoticed to all was Bill Herscher who was not even expected to race because he just purchased this new car and he was bolting the last few parts on that machine as he drove into the track. He raced and he did a darn good job taking 2nd place in his very first time in that Van Diemen. Bill did a fantastic job to keep it together and take the number two spot. We thought Jim Johnson was done for the day but he managed to overcome the electrical problem he had early in the race and he made it back on the track and was putting down some blistering times as he took the final 3rd podium spot.
Jim Belay came into the weekend as the points leader but work commitments prevented him from making the trip down to Sebring so he lost his top spot to Mauro Fauza and also Doug Stewart passed Jim. Doug Stewart kept within striking distance of Mauro with only two events remaining on the schedule and looking at Doug's determination in the past you will never count that guy out of the championship . The drivers will take a long break during the intense southern heat but they will resume at the beginning of November for the Race Mirror Extreme Grand Prix of Road Atlanta. This race could be the largest field of the year as Race Mirror Extreme company will be sponsoring that event for southernformulacar.com. They have some of the nicest mirrors on the market and its fantastic to have them involved with our series at Road Atlanta. The final points will be posted soon on http://www.southernformulacar.com It was an exciting run of the first six races so it will be interesting to have such a long break as we had to leave the August Daytona off the schedule this year. We will be pushing hard to gather a great field at Road Atlanta and the final event back at Roebling Road for the Driven Race oil twin 50's. Some of the drivers will be looking to run in the F2000 championship series as they visit Mid Ohio Sports car course next weekend and Virginia International in July. Bob Wright runs a great championship and PrimusRacingparts.com is a proud associate sponsor of the series. We also look to the other Primus sponsored series on the west coast as Peter West and company are gearing up for the Pacific Quartermaster Classic at beautiful Laguna Seca raceway in Monterey, California. This will be a carbon copy of the successful east coast Quartermaster classic so look for Pacificf2000.com to have one of the largest fields of the year for this July event. Lots of good racing happening this summer and we will see everyone back in November at Road Atlanta.
