Can anyone point me to a source for the Tremmel like tool used to set the distance between rod ends on a FE car?

    Thanks

    Default Ebay

for traditional Trammel sets you can find all sorts of useful stuff on Ebay by searching Trammel. You would need some sleeves to step from one rodend hole size to the next.

    Default Make em

Made mine using angle iron and bolts the size of the rod ends. Cut the head off the bolt, ground to a point and slotted one of the holes in the angle to allow for adjustments

Kevin Kloepfer at Comprent makes a really nice jig for setting suspension arm lengths on the FE. Triangular frame of rectangular steel tube, with machined pins (in slots for adjusting pin to pin distance) to fit all the rod ends, even the weird spherical bearing bit on the front lower. Once you adjust the pins to the lengths you want for each arm, you can repeat them for the other side, spares, etc.

Don't remember what it cost...had one for years. But Kevin does really nice work and prices are reasonable.

    Best regards,
    Eric

Thanks for the reference Steve. I did check out Ebay and ordered a set of clamp-on trammels for $15 with free shipping. With a piece of scrap angle or bar, I cannot think of a better way for less money .... or 4X the money. I did not think I needed a tool, but how could I resist.

If you want to make an easy 'step' for different size rod ends - weld one of these on each end.

Default How tight is the fit?

Gary, good thinking. Only concern I might have is a really close fit. Of course great for precision, but could it be finicky to work with?

I almost bought one of these a few years ago, but decided I didn't really need it for my FV. really nice tool when you had it in your hands, though.

It was last winter that I worked with it, so I can't say 100%, but I don't recall it being too much of a pain.
