    Default Spectating at SVRA-Indy

    Hey,

A buddy and I are probably gonna attend the 2019 event.

Any "Must-dos", and stuff to avoid?
    Best place to sit/stand?
    Good hotels?
    Etc.

    TIA,

    Rog Smith

Best place to spectate - top row of the infield grandstand at the far end, overlooking Turns 1-3 forward and Turns 4-7 behind you. You also get the sound of the big-bores at full song coming at you down the straight.

    Must-do - the Jaguar autocross.
    Caldwell D9B - Sold
    Crossle' 30/32/45 Mongrel - Sold
RF94 Monoshock - here goes nothin'

Take an extra day and go to the Auburn/Cord/Dusenberg museum about 3 hrs north off of I-65. If you have more time, a sprint car race at Eldora, Winchester, or Terre Haute would be worth it.

Restaurants - great ones all over the city and surroundings. For starters, go to Massachusetts Avenue just north east of downtown.

There are AMAZING little BBQ joints all over Austin. A little web googling/reviews, etc. will suggest many. E.G. Trip Advisor. I've been to Stiles. Yummy!

Ditto Jim's comment about the museum - don't know how I forgot that.

One thing, though - what do you drive? No entry fee for FFords this event...

Seems to me the best place to spectate from, is from the seat of a FF in the field. I had a phenomenal view from the back at COTA.

    Default Hotels and food

There are a number of decent hotels near the airport approx. 15 minute drive from the track. The Ramada Inn is not one of them for many reasons not worth highlighting.

There are a number of pretty darn good restaurants right there in Speedway, IN. Dawson's on Main, Barbecue and Bourbon, and Union Jack Pub which is near the interstate. Typical pub fare there but, very cool photos and a sprint car inside.

For viewing you can stand on some deck levels in the infield grandstands and keep pivoting your head. Also, the area near the end of the infield stands as mentioned. There are also high berms at the end of the front straight in the infield with a great view of T1 and all of that section of infield turns. That puts you much closer to the 'noise'. Most of the passing is done in T1 and the end of the Hulman straight.

    Default Get Busy Ribs!

I went to Butler in Indy for undergrad. Tripped across Get Busy Ribs. Local brother with a hole in the wall joint. That was 23 years ago. Looks like it might still be there. Good stuff:
