Default Announcing the 2019, Inaugural CAN-AM FORMULA FORD CHALLENGE

TEAM CANADA verses TEAM UNITED STATES of AMERICA

The 50th anniversary is the right time for Canadian and American Formula Fords to show national pride.

Canadian & American national teams will defend their nation’s honour on two of North America’s iconic race tracks, where Formula Fords flourished in their hey day, at:

VARAC’s Vintage Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (Mosport) on June 13-16, 2019 &

VRG’s Watkins Glen event on October 10-13, 2019.

Race cars will be eligible in three classes: Historic and Club Fords, conforming to Monoposto rules, and Post Club Fords, as raced in VRG’s Formula Ford Challenge Series.

Each National team will accrue points at both events and a Champion will be declared upon completion of the Watkins Glen weekend. Top Americans in class will be recognized at CTMP and top Canadians will be recognized at the Glen.

In addition, there will be three individual Class Champions, based on points scored within their class. The highest point getter will be the overall champion. A tie will be broken. Points will be weighted towards participating and finishing. In order to qualify for individual awards divers must compete in both events, so the points after CTMP will be tentative.

The races will be run concurrently with the Monoposto run group at CTMP and with the VRG Formula Ford Challenge Series at the Glen. We expect a separate run group for our Feature Race at the VARAC VGP with sufficient entries.

The Can-Am Challenge Cup is in no way designed to conflict with the VARAC Monoposto group or VRG’s FF Challenge series. It is extra fun to help increase interest amongst the Vintage Formula Ford community in this, FF’s 50th anniversary.

Registration for the VARAC Vintage Grand Prix is now open at www.motorsportreg.com . All entries received before January 1, 2019 will receive a $100.00 discount.

More information will be released as it becomes available.

We have several Formula Fords and our drivers would love to participate in these events. We are wondering about the rules, however, specifically concerning tire choice and shocks. I have emailed Robert and Peter at the address listed above but the email was returned. Then I repeated the email with an "e" added to the word challenge but received no reply. Perhaps you can post an answer to the shock and tire question here so that we all can see. We look forward to running with you on two of our favorite tracks. Thanks for producing the races!

Hello true racer. Sorry I didn't reply to this, just saw the response now.

As far as the shocks go, the rules for historic and club ford, as per the monoposto rules:
"Shock absorbers are free except that they shall not be more than two-way adjustable and shall not have remote reservoirs."

For post club ford, as per FFCS rules:
"Shock absorbers: Design - unrestricted; Casing Material steel or aluminum alloy. All components which are not defined as chassis/frame or suspension are unrestricted, unless otherwise restricted by these rules or the GCR."

As far as tires go, all classes will run on the same rule set for tires, with the following tires being allowed:
    Front:
    Dunlop 135/545-13 CR82 9092
    Avon 5.0/22.0-13 A29 14297
    Hoosier VFF 44165, 135-545-13
    Rear:
    Dunlop 165/580-13 CR82 9092
    Avon 6.5/23.0-13 A29 14298
    Hoosier VFF 44170, 165-580-13

I will see what's going on with the email address, sorry for the inconvenience!

Not sure why the email isn't working.
You can email me direct at RLBork@gmail.com

We are trying to be as inclusive as we can. If you have a CF with shocks that do not fit the monoposto rule we will move you into the Post Club Ford group for the event. Same race group, just a different class for scoring.

We would love to see you join our Team USA!
