My bet is that what ever car it came from, the car was available as an air cooled Formula Super Vee. I would be looking at English build FSVs for your answer.
agree with Steve. That's a type 3 bearing retainer and stub axle, as required by FSV rules. And those aren't Royale parts from that period.
Looks to me like the type 3 setup was added later. You can see other holes next to the VW bolts. My guess is a low volume US builder because of the open casting on the back side. Any english casting I've seen has a cored center. Just my $0.02.

Where else but ApexSpeed could you find this sort of discussion?
Caldwell D9B - Sold
Crossle' 30/32/45 Mongrel - Sold
RF94 Monoshock - here goes nothin'
A lot of FF and F3 parts got re-purposed for the FSVs. Is the other side identical in terms of the second set of bolt patterns?
Trying to think go all the common FSV manufacturers - Lola, March, Zink (steve's lack of comment rules that out) to Royale, Tui, ....
When trying to ID stuff I often go to the "cars sold" part of Race-cars.com and look thru the pictures.
From my experience, they are not Eldon or Tui. I have worked on both and they both use the English style cored castings.

Whats it bolted to in the photos?
Not Lola FSV either. Lola is an open back casting: is different from their FF style casting . Not the same as this one however.

Lolas also have the P/N cast into them, D210/4014.
Years ago I bought what I thought was a basket case Caldwell D10 FSV. The bodywork, seat and chassis looked correct so I bought it for a song. When assembled the engine bay looked off, the rear uprights were not from the D9, it has the incorrect steering rack and a few other quirks. I did track down the original owner using the SCCA Log Book number on the roll bar and he verified it was his car, the paintwork was still the same. The car has no paperwork and the owner provided no help.
I believe that this could be long lost Chassis #1. The bodywork has the rounded nose just like the picture in Andrew Schupak's SV book showing Ray Caldwell at a car show with D10 #1 which also has a round nose. The later cars used the D9 bodywork.
Anyway, for curiosities sake where did those uprights come from. Did Ray make one set then revert back to the D9 uprights ???
