Default Registration for the ARRC and Right Coast Finale is open

    Hi,

Registration for the 2018 American Road Race of Champions and the Right Coast Formula F Series finale is now open on MotorsportReg.com. You can also find a link to register on our website www.rcffs.org as well as the schedule and supps for the event.

I believe that Kevin Brumbaugh may have been the first one to enter; thank you Kevin. We have taken to calling this RCFFS race weekend the Prelude to the 50th and are hoping that we will get an even better turnout than we did last year.

Great race track with tons of Formula F history. So, as they might say in Chicago, please enter early and often. It would be great to have 30 plus of us racing this season to get warmed up for the 50th Anniversary next year.

    See you at Road Atlanta,

    Joe Marcinski

    Alright !!!

9 entries on the first day! Now, all we need is three more days exactly like that and we will have a really great field.

Thank you Kevin, Mark, Dave, Sam, Steve, Tim, Phil and Mike for getting your entries in early. I am sure we will see Doug Fisher, Dave Harmison, Sam Eyer, Wayne Nicolette, Craig Walker, Steve Brooks, Graham Earley, Gary Guzman, Derek Holmes, Angela Slocum, Dave Gernert and Ed Callo entered very soon.

I am told that our friend Keith Hall, from Colorado, may be making the trip to join us.

Remember, everyone is welcome whether you are on slicks or treads, Fords or Hondas; if you want to race we have a place for you.

    Best regards,

    Joe Marcinski

Default Registration for the ARRC and Right Coast Finale is open

OK, 16 days until load in and we have 23 FF/CFF entries for the ARRC race and 22 entries for the Right Coast race. Can we get to 30? Nice round number, an increase over last year and a nice kick off number in preparation for the 50th Anniversary event next season.

Steve Brooks has not entered yet. I understand that Storm Field is planning on attending. Ed Callo has been tied up all year trying to get the Ford River Rouge plant back up and running; but surely they will let him get in one last race weekend in 2018?

Brandon Lavender, Dan Pyanowski, Will Velkoff and Chris Horan; any chance you can make it?

We are not that far away from a really impressive car count and as Purple Frog has stated; this is important for next year.

    Thanks,

    Joe Marcinski

This year of work and home transition did not end up well for getting back on track. I have a fresh butler ready to go in the car but haven't been able to get things in order to prep and make the trip. Really sorry I can't contribute to your efforts; there is a small chance I may come down just to crew/support. I wish the best of luck to Joe, Mike and all the organizers putting so much time into boosting the class for the 50th next year. Have fun everyone.

I was planning on it, but a combination of not enough vacation days left off work (I need to start saving for the 50th next year!) and business travel to Paris that week will prevent me from making the trek down. Certainly bummed I cannot make it this year.

91 degrees on drive back from Panama City today. I would look for any reason to get out of Florida. Unfortunately now that I have to do the Florida thing along with Mich I will not be able to make it. Sorry Mike and Joe.

Default For Sale at the ARRC - CF

    Apologies for hijacking the thread!

I'll be there on Saturday with several items for sale. I'm doing vintage with the PRS and have several things from its CF days in SCCA that I no longer need:

    Hoosier rains
Two sets of Hoosier R60 slicks
Compomotive wheels (rains are mounted on them currently and can dismount at track)
    Driver suit
Cool shirt - looks new and possibly never used

We are getting closer. Need more drivers.

To see how much fun it is from the seat, Michael Ray has kindly provided us with the full on-board race video of Phil Kingham, CFF #27.

You can find the video here https://www.rcffs.org/schedule.html#Atlanta

While there, please register if you can and haven't done so already.

    Hi,

We are now one week until load in for the ARRC and the Prelude to the 50th Anniversary of FF/Right Coast race weekend.

Steve Brooks, Don Baggett and Sam Eyer are now entered and we have 25 entries for the FF/CF only Right Coast race.

We have 26 FF/CF entries for the ARRC Group 4 race for FF, CF, FST, FV & F500. Two of the FF/CF entrants are not entered in the Right Coast race, but we are going to contact them to see if they will also race in the Prelude to the 50th RCFFS race.

Are there 5 more drivers out there who would really like to get one more in this season? It has been a long time since Road Atlanta has seen a 30 car FF/CF grid................

This is going to be a great event. Please come and join us.

Just checked weather underground and it looks like we're getting the sunshine "meat" out of a rain sandwich. Need to dress for cool weather but mostly dry.

They haven’t had race monitor working all weekend for live timing so that may affect results too. There is conjecture it may have something to do when th the construction project on the tower, but I’m not sure if that’s it.

Saturday results were actually Kingham, Rand, Harmison. Sunday Kingham, Harmison, Nicolette. Better racing action than you see on TV by far.Old FF's raced in drafts like they're supposed to. No stupid DRS needed.
And Kents by Quicksilver, Butler, Nelson and Clay against Honda with no issues and great parity.

    Sportsfans,

Another great ARRC is in the books. Fields in every run group were much larger than past years. Especially true for formula cars (except FC ).
    Weather was spectacular.
Atlanta Region and all the entrants had to deal with a bit of a curve ball thrown at them by the track. Seems that the day after the Petite; track management decided to tear down the iconic tower that has loomed over Turn 12 since 1970. This caused all activity to be based on the "pro" side. And... it disrupted the WiFi and such. Thus, no race monitor.
Interestingly, there have been so many new paved parking lots developed on the infield side that even with sloppy parking of rigs, everybody was on pavement. In fact I now think that when the old side is re-opened, combined with the "pro" side and all the new parking lots.... Road Atlanta could probably host the Runoffs. Hint. Hint.
I'm posting a picture of Saturday's FF grid. Something like 24 cars. Note also the beautiful blue sky. And, it may be the last time you get to see the old tower in a picture. To be replaced by a modern structure along the lines of the one at Barber I heard.
So... OK... the weather was perfect, the racing was intense, and it was Road Atlanta. What's not to love?

It was a fun weekend. Glorious track, mostly good weather, and great racing with RCFFS.

As usual, for this track, the officiating was an "Abbott and Costello" routine from beginning to end. While the nicest people you will meet at a race track, race control is always 5 mins behind. If you must go FCC, don't wait 3 laps, and have the field race through the danger zone for 2 more laps. I have seen that same scenario at this track about a dozen times in the last decade. At least the pace car picked up the correct leader on this occasion.

This was the view from our FF pole sitter on the Saturday split start. The slow F5s were 4 seconds ahead at the start, but lost 3 1/2 seconds of gap on the pit straight, then spun in front of the FF/CF pack. Proper separation, with or without a 2nd pace car is required, with two groups of similar pace. Again, routine for Road Atlanta events.

Clearly, these operational issues don't get fixed because the track is so incredible that the racing is very good, and competitors keep coming back, as I intend to several times next year. I think the gravel traps are past due to be upgraded to pavement, which would reduce FCC frequency dramatically. Hopefully the track will do that soon. It made a world of difference to the quality of racing at the Glen.

So, if someone shows up with a Stohr WF-1 "ASR" they have to run with the GT1 and GT2 cars instead of the FA/P1/P2 crowd? How does that even make sense?

I *think* the only ASR cars seen in SEDiv in this century are a couple of robust Shelby Can Am cars.

If the car you're imagining would be a better fit in the wings and things group they'd probably consider moving the class.

What do you have in mind, Stan? :-)
