Default Lucas Oil Raceway (IRP) road course lives! Maybe.

Per an Autoweek article, the motorsports complex west of Indy is slated for up to $10 million in renovations, including long-term plans to revive the vaunted 15 turn road course. Great news for anyone who loved the fast, sweeping and yes, dangerous track. I would speculate that the new front straight will have to bypass the drag strip, as they are now pampered like the greens at Augusta. I could even understand if they change the scary turn 1, maybe into a right-left-right combo like Imola's Tambourello corner. In any form, I'll take it.

Default It will always be "IRP" to me

    https://autoweek.com/article/nascar/...-nascar-return

Had some great days there but the article indicates the priority of the projects:

    1. Oval
    2. Drag Strip
    3. Road Course

    I am not optimistic...

Thanks for posting the link OC1.

They said the road course is on the list, so I'll take them at their word for now. I can see turns 1 and 6 reconfigured to slower, longer brake zone corners, which is fine. There's lots of room to do anything they want.

Yes, the oval is the priority. 21 years since a repave. They want the Brickyard 400 prelims back. It was a much better party atmosphere there. The Xfinity series at the Speedway looks like it's attended by primarily the teams' family and friends.

    Default Irp

I've driven a number of vehicles there, Enduro Go-Karts, F/Ford , F Super-Vee and F-5000 and never thought of turn 1 as scary. Maybe something that separates drivers so why change it !

as someone who worked the night before the 500 FSV events and then had to be at Indy at 0430, that sucked, as they put the FSV race at the end and it was impossible to get the traffic out of that joint, forced me into an all-nighter. I preferred Champ Dirt at the fairgrounds anyway.

That said, making the road course viable again is a good thing!
