For Sale 1985 VanDiemen RF85 for sale

Reduced Price For sale is my RF85 Van Diemen. This car has been used for autocrossing for the last ten years. It could be converted to use for vintage road racing with the addition of a fire system and updated belts. The motor is a recent rebuild with new pistons and cam and has less than 10 hours use. The motor does have 20 over pistons which were installed to match the existing bore. The car is in good condition, located in Louisville Kentucky. New Price Asking $9,300. Would sell as a roller for $7,000.

    Mike,

Thank you for your disclosure regarding the pistons.
As a reminder, for SCCA FF and CM, the rules only allow for a 5 over pistons.
    From the SCCA GCR:

    e. Pistons
    1. Standard or 0.005 inch oversize pistons shall be used.
    2. Standard size AE pistons P/N 18649, casting P/N 18634, standard
size CP piston, part # 81-2 FF1600, or CP oversize piston,
    part # 81-2- FF1600+5 may be used.
    Take care,
    Chris Pruett

    Post 020 pistons

The FRCCA allows .020 pistons in their "Club Classes" C/F Tyro - F/1600 and the F/PA divisions. FRCCA is a NE Region. Call Andy for more info 201-665-8682.

    Default Svra

This could run in SVRA PostClubFord also, given the general rules allow 0.047” overbore. I can’t find a recent copy of the SVRA FF Rulebook but I’m guessing if you disclosed it at entry, they wouldn’t turn you away. Nice looking little FF...

Default 1985 VanDiemen RF85 for sale

Nice looking car with a tasteful paint scheme. Clean condition and kudos for the full disclosure on the bore size. Based on the forgoing I think that someone will be getting a nice car from the seller.

Hello, we currently run CAM T and are exploring the idea of running a MOD instead (likely F Mod). Is the cockpit big enough for a full grown man (5'10" and 210 pounds). Also and most importantly, we have strict sound restrictions, 96 DB at 50 feet. Any insight into whether or not this might meet that requirement or if exhaust could be quieted without limiting performance?

I the sound thing is not a big deal with the 1600 ford engine, Honda I'm not sure about what db they run, I run at 94 to 96 db all the time with this muffler.

If it starts to go over sound it is usually the packing in the muffler which is replaceable

96 db can easily be met with a muffler I use on the car. I have a friend who drives an 86 VD almost identical to my car who is 6'2" and weighs around 220 lbs. You would need to make seat adjustments to my car, I weigh 160 lbs and I am 5'9".

SVRA rules don't have a provision for that, max bore 3.200", and specific pistons that can be used. Same rules as SCCA etc.

Yes, SVRA follows SCCA rules. But you would want to check with Rick Parent rick@svra.com to find out if disclosing would allow the car to run in the FF PCA group.

Sorry for the delay in replying. Yes, the car is still available. I keep the car in my friends airplane hangar. I would have to contact him to see if we could get in to view the car tomorrow, since that is all that is left of the weekend. Let me know if Sunday before 2pm works for you. If so I will get in touch with him.
