Drive Chain Guards and Tensioning
Finally moved from a belt drive to a chain.
What do people do about chain guards? I've installed some angle aluminum to make a U-channel above and below the chain and have a plate in front of the front sprocket to catch it from going forward. I'm still wrestling with getting it mounted, but I have the bottom one riveted to the floor and plan on attaching the top one to the body rather than trying to make a bracket/frame for it.
I also plan to put tensioner wheels on both top and bottom to catch slack. Dave tried to make a spring loaded tensioner, but it ate through the plastic tensioner wheels after just a few laps (we're using the Stallard chassis tensioner wheels from SpeedwayMotors (they are platic wheels with bearings). Do people use spring loaded tensioners or anything to catch the slack? How tight do you want the chain (should it have some amount of movement like the clutch belt?)
