Default All [well, mostly...] Open Wheel Mid Ohio coming up

June 30-July 1 sees the return of FRP's now yearly all formula car weekend at Mid Ohio
Aside from the hosting FRP USAC Sanctioned F2000, F1600 [FF] and FAtlantic races there are races put on by Right Coast Formula F Series, for all and every iteration of FF or CF car regardless of tire choice open to Kents and Fits and even Cortinas [if there is still one running], the Challenge Cup with a north of 30 cars entered, SCCA Pro Racing and the F4 series, and, while they have fenders they are purpose built race cars, the VS2 group that welcomes any and every Sports 2000 car.
Seven race groups of pure race cars !
Spectator admission is free I believe, the paddocks are going to be full and open to all and the track a much a test as ever.
What a weekend this is shaping up to be, shouldn't YOU be there ?
Especially if you have a race car that is eligible...….

The locals will have their picnic baskets up on the hills - always good spectator support at Mid-Ohio.

    Kevin,
I have no idea of any of FRP groups or VS2 or F4 but FVCC is over 30 and Right Coast is at or slightly above 20, at least as of today.
It'll be surprising if there aren't nearly 150 purpose built race cars on site when all the groups are totaled.
    See you next week.

Looked at the weather. Weather underground is predicting 90 or 91 for highs and chances of showers. Good old Midwest hot and humid. Bring lots of water.

    Grass anybody?

I was just talking to Phil, and much as we'd like to be with the rest of the gang, standing on asphalt all weekend in 90 degree heat makes our feet want to run away without us. We're going to paddock on the grass nearer the camping bathrooms if anyone wants to join us. If you get there early there are trees for shade too.

Another outstanding Right Coast event. Some people had their challenges, but in true fashion, over came adversity. Personally, I had an incredible race Saturday afternoon that ended in a racing incident shunt and then another DNF when unnoticed damage from Saturday left me with a flat tire in the Sunday morning race but I ran to a good second behind Phil Kingham in the final race but in a field thinned by the heat and exhaustion.

Great job of organizing by Joe and Mike.

Yes. I agree totally with Dave. Thanks to Joe, Mike, and everyone involved. There will be some great events for FF in 2019, but this event is one that should be on everyone's calendar.

BTW: We had technical problems with our GoPro. Please post video if you have it. I'd love to watch what happened all throughout the field.

Here is my video from the feature race (Sunday AM). Great stuff - brake pedal went to the floor when I went to do a little left foot brake prior to entry for turn 1. Thought I'd be able to go off and on, but got pulled to the right into the gravel trap and into the barrier.

*Almost* missed the barrier. Ah, well. Tires locked up nicely once they had nothing to grip..

Looks like lotsa polite fun until then.

Default Video of Saturday afternoon race

Here is video of the Saturday afternoon race. This was one of the more exciting races to watch. The top 5 of Greg Rice, Dan Pyanowski, Phil Kingham, Dave Harmison, and Wayne Nicolette were racing wheel to wheel for the entire 14 lap race. Well... 13 laps for Greg, Phil, and Dave....

Great video Mike. I have to hire that camera car driver more often.

The Austrian Grand Prix wasn't that hard fought. Two wide and two deep going through Madness? This is madness!

Awesome race guys. Just wish I could have gotten her slowed enough to avoid the shunt.

There was racing all through the field. Even at the back. Always someone to race with at RCFFS events. Had a blast, big thanks to Joe and Mike. Near the end you will see how close the top four were. Great event, with great folks.

What a race! I enjoyed that one more than the Austrian GP.

After looking at that video I think I might take mine down. Awesome driving guys, it shows why you guys are always up front. Better than F1 any day.

What are diagnosis results for why brakes died?

Havent gone into the investigation, but the most likely culprit is a master cylinder issue. No visible fluid leaks from the lines or calipers. The pedal is soft but does partially come back after a few quick pumps.
