Default Manual cam chain tensioner adjustment 2008 GSXR 1000

I installed a manual cam chain tensioner on my GSXR 1000 engine and am getting two different free play values. At TDC it's looser at the chain tensioner follower than at BDC. I have the valve cover off and using a magnet to pull the chain at the follower to measure slack. I figure it's best to adjust 1MM free play when at BDC(tightest). Any inputs?

    Default Why

I would figure out why the difference in tension. Either a sprocket has some runout in it or the chain has a variation in pitch length causing the difference. I would fix that before setting. Just my $0.02.

The difference may simply be the valve springs trying to rotate the cams.

Yes, that's what I'm thinking is happening. So ether with help or by myself a better way to check free play is to maintain constant tension on the chain by trying to turn the engine without rotating it.

    Thanks!

    Default Is this legal

Just a question - if FB requires a stock engine, can a cam chain tensioner be legal?
