Thanks in part to your RFFCS committee beating up on VRG for a schedule revamp, we’ve got Round 4 of the Royale Formula Ford Challenge Series set for July 27-29 at New Jersey Motorsports Park Thunderbolt circuit.
This is VRG’s first visit to Thunderbolt, which has a gigantic paddock, showers, and garages. As such, there is no “home-track” advantage for the northern racers who are all familiar with Lightning, and unfamiliar with Thunderbolt. There are also no conflicting-race excuses possible so we hope to see great representation from our Southern contingent. Weather in south Jersey in late-July is good even when its bad (and the sandy soil drains very quickly – notably important after the Jefferson 500 flood-out). The 2.25 mile, 12-turn track rewards precision and features a couple of cheek-clenching sweeps. Might need to loosen the lap belts a smidgen for those.
Butch O’Connor (yes, a Joisey Boy, though he doesn’t sound it - other than the “Butch” part) runs a great meeting and this year will be no exception. It is a three-day meeting with more track time than you can count. We will be in full barbecue mode with chicken thighs, pork loins and vegetable korma for the vegetarians, washed down with copious amounts of beer and wine. Famous south Jersey tomatoes will runneth over our salad bowls. We will be raffling our sponsors’ goodies as usual – Hoosier tires, KFP brake pads courtesy of Powerlide Motorsports, safety supplies courtesy of RaceQuip and $500 engine labor courtesy of Quicksilver RacEngines. For “crew” inclined to spend time at the beaches – they are minutes away. Great local bike riding, too – flat and empty roads.
Early-Bird entry is now open at Motorsportreg.com. Join the fun now and support VRG’s newest event.
