Default Ah..New paint for the new season.....Lola T202.....

So, my brother Todd and I both have new race cars for 2018. He a spectacular Crossle 44/45, that I actually passed over for the car I now have and I am now kicking myself for, and for myself, a Lola T202. Both cars are mint. We could not ask for better. But, as we all know, we have to make them our own.
My brothers' Crossle has a spectacular paint job that could not be improved on. Look at it, it looks wet for heavens sake...If I come half-way close, I'll be happy.......

My car is a "body-in-white" gell-coat. I thought I might warm up by painting my helmet, seen here in factory silver at Watkins glen for it's first test session, both the helmet and the car....

I found and printed out some shots of my helmet off the WWW, .....

I then sketched out, based on my previous helmets, something I thought might work....

Wet sanded, primed and painted with the first color of white, this is where we stand...

All this is a warm-up to painting the Lola with urethanes, that I have never used, but the acrylic laquers I'm using for the helmet are a dream compared to the enamels I used 20 years ago.

Any words of advise on the helmet would be greatly appreciated, and this is your last chance to talk me out of painting the Lola with the urethanes.

Our first race is the the Jefferson 500 in May, I want more time to paint but I wish we were driving tomorrow !!!!!

Love the helmet paint idea, [Reminds me of my own; see below] and the car is gorgeous too!

Talent usually ends up in front, but fun goes from the front of the grid all the way to the back.

My word of advice on painting is don't do it on the kitchen table. The wife won't be happy.

Default So, to finish up on the helmet........

I hadn't realized I did not finish the helmet post, sorry, that was rude...
We left off with thew helmet masked off and the pearl white shot.

Next, we masked off the white areas and shot the blue....

I then removed the masking so I could see where I wanted the red, masked those areas off and shot the red. then waited the 30 minutes and shot 2 coats of clear gloss.

After the clear dried, I waited a few hours for it to harden up, applied my name and then the remaining hardware re-attached....

I like the way it came out, the new paints make life so much easier, I may go to a darker blue later, for now it's fine.
