If you own a Crossle, you probably have had the rear stub axle/companion flange wear and become sloppy over time. Being a Design Engineer, this winter I took a look at the design and came up with two concepts to try and improve this:
1.) Drive pin style (similar to Van Diemens) - I was able to redesign the parts to accommodate six .250 inch hardened dowel pins to transmit the torque instead of the splines. I made drawings and obtained a quote for 2 sets - approximately $1250 per wheel
2.) Polygon design - I have a contact at Stoffel Polygon (www.stoffelpolygon.com). I sent him photos and drawings of the pinned design. He took the drawings and created a new version with a polygon system to transmit the torque. He quoted approximately $1500 per wheel. He feels this design will essentially never wear as he can grind the parts to a perfect fit up.
If you are in need/want of parts let me know by replying to this thread, PM, or email at William.velkoff at gmail.com
I am looking to get a group buy together to get the best possible price for everyone. I will be providing my upright to whichever shop I choose (leaning towards Polygon now) so they can verify the dimensions and fit up to ensure proper fitment of parts prior to shipment. These designs both are direct fits with no modification to uprights or bearings.
