    Default Grid Girls

I saw an interesting article on F1 possibly getting rid of "Grid Girls". I imagine that given the onslaught of harassment charges...seems the timing might be right.

Then I stumbled on this today. OH BOY.

Yea, I am with you. Just with all that money walking around pit row and the latest "guilty until proven innocent" mentality...it wouldn't take much to create a whole lotta problems for a race series / team / individuals.

I am 44. I don't see the need to have grid girls. And at my age and demographic...I would think that I am the demographic they would want. I guess what I am saying is that I would imagine that F1 and all the other series will most likely get rid of the grid girl tradition.

In this day and age it’s a bit on anachronism to be honest. It’s about time we moved away from this kinda thing. At Daytona 24 a few years ago we had kids from the local school holding our flag which I thought was pretty neat.

OK, I have to ask which model Lotus this is. It almost looks like a heavily modified 61.. Does look nice (might look better with WeatherTech 'sponsorship'!)

Liberty (new F1 owners) have recently come out with a statement saying they intend to carry on the (patently ridiculous and tacky) procedure of introducing the drivers as they did at COTA, with all the hype. It made NASCAR look tame.

Does this look like they are doing away with grid girls?

I wonder what Brundle will have to say about that?

Yep it is a modified 61. Tracing the history back the car was modified since day one. Contacted 10 of its owners and found when each of the mods were done. Bring on Weather Tech.

gee, losing grid girls would be as bad as losing excitable boy buxton from the telecast.

oh wait, that wouldn't be a bad thing at all.

    never mind.

there weren't too many grid girls in the series i covered so i guess my "people" album will have to suffice.

there are a few shots in there that do come close though.

Marc, thanks for the photo link. Great photography.

I was at several of the events in the photos. Reminds me that I have been occupying space on this planet for quite some time.

Somewhere in large box of photos, I have a great shot of the "Tecate Girls"

Indeed. Why does a segment of the population presume it knows what's best for everyone else? Political correctness will be the death of us.

It's not new. It's part of an evolving society. It's easy to imagine a lot of people said the same thing about getting rid of slavery (a harsh example, I'll admit).

Sometimes it's good, sometimes not. Depends on which side you're on. :-)
