    Default 2017-2018 rFactor2 League Headcount

OK, things are looking promising to have a fun league this fall/winter to help pass the time with some sim racing. I'm looking for a headcount to see who would be interested in racing with us. We will leave a lot of things open for voting so majority will rule in most cases for day, time, tracks, etc.. We will race primarily North American tracks in the USF2000 mod. All abilities are welcome and the mod install process is very simple so we should be able to get you turning some laps on the server in no time. Please reply to this post with your intentions. Please help spread the word as well to those who may be interested as well. I would like to see at least 15 cars participate.

rFactor2 is only $32 on Steam... A hell of a deal!

Here's the current breakdown of those who are or may be interested. Those in bold have downloaded the pack and successfully logged into the server. Those with a tilde (~) have been sent mod pack download instructions:

    Keith Carter
    Chris Furlough
    Roger Smetaniuk
    Jerry Santucci
    Steve Davis
    Dave Marklein
    John LaBrie
    Jean-Sebastien Stoezel
    Eric Little
    Wade Marcantonio

    Dean Oppermann

    Chris Buccola
    Luis Goncalves
    Brian Burke
    Colin Marklein

I could be in! With a car that doesn't require 10 years experience to handle (like the SRF did), I might graduate from team "Start and Park".

I'd like to give it a try as well. I tried out the stock USF2000 mod and it seems pretty decent although I really know NOTHING about how to 'tune' it. I have actually made a couple of laps without spinning, but the rF2 seems to give me less depth perception than I could get in rf1. Maybe I just haven't found the right FOV yet.

You didn't SAY, but assume you are talking rF2 here since that's been the discussion topic lately.

Question for everyone. Have you all been able to use the SAME computer that you used for rF1 on rF2? Just wondering if, maybe I need more HP for rF2, though I still think my CPU is pretty top of the line except for those true GAMERS out there. Mine IS now about 6 years old though.

    Steve...
I am NOT a computer geek, but here is what worked for me..
I could not use the same computer I had been using with RF1. that computer was at it's limit with RF1 and I now use it for on-line searching and such. i bought an "I buy Power" computer about 3 years ago with a i7 5820k processor and a Nvidia GTX 970 card. i would love to up grade the card, but $$'s right now are slim as I am retired. I found the main thing is to keep your video card from over heating so i install a program called MSI Afterburner. i now can set up my fan speeds to keep card temps to 60 to 65c Max. this helped a lot.
as far as depth perception I would try different FOV's and you can adjust your seat forward and aft, up and down too. what i have found, with my old eyes, the nose view is better for me. i have a buddy who uses cockpit view and can't use nose view - too each his own - whatever works best for you.
    hope this helps...
also, i really like the USF2000 mod! i think this car gives you great grip and braking and is a hoot to drive. setups are spec to a degree which makes it easier for novice's. i have found they like a lot of wing, but i am not the fastest in the world either.

I am interested in wanting to do this. I just have to see if I can do a power supply for my old desktop and new graphics card and hopefully I could be good to go. Any idea on what day we were looking at running races?

    Hey Keith,

I'd be interested. Keep me posted on dates/times. I have been thinking of getting a simulator and this might be the perfect excuse to do it!

    Thanks,
    Luis

Not exactly sure yet. I'm sure I'll probably leave it up to majority vote of a few different evening selections. Wednesday or Tuesday evenings have worked well in the past. Probably somewhere in the late evening time window of 8-9PM Central.

Mine is the same PC (AMD Quad Core with 8GB RAM) except for the graphics card. I bought a used nVidia 760 GTX from a co-worker of mine to upgrade from my ATI 5750 card I had. Depending on how well your PC runs rF1, you may need to upgrade just the video card to run with a full grid of cars or tweak the graphics settings to only draw a certain number of cars or with less detail.

We can do skins. All I ask is that they are kept fairly race car looking. I also ask that everyone use their full name properly capitalized when they join the server. The cool thing about the skins is that they are automatically exchanged. Jerry was able to see my skin without any exchange of files.

Okay, I am new to RF2, but it finally installed yesterday, and I drove a skip barber car at Limerock for a few laps. By the way, finding my way to grid and then track entry was hilarious - took me a few minutes and a few resets to find it! What can I say, I've never been to Limerock before.

Anyway, I did find the Apex server, but it needs a password to join.

So I need the password and how to get the USF2000 car, please.

I installed iRacing earlier this summer. If I can get this to work I would be in too.

I presume that, whilst not preferred, it is okay if we "drop in" and don't race every week? I typically have a fair number of work calls at night and may have to miss some.

You will need to download the USF2000 package from the steam workshop then Keith will have to get you the apex package and password.

I'm very jealous of you guys with high-speed internet. We're out here in the sticks running off a tower. Estimate to get high speed cable laid was 10K. Not going to happen.

Yep, it will be fine to miss races. I'm sure others will have to miss some too. What I would prefer you don't do though, is drop in for a race without any practice and try to figure out which way the turns go.

The package still is undergoing some testing. Sometimes the tracks have issues like the pace car doesn't work correctly or there are random issues during the races with flags and starts. We're trying to work through some of those so that we can correct the package before it gets everywhere. In the meantime, please get used to running some individual races with the USF2000 and figuring out how the realroad track effects work. Get accustomed to the way that pit stops work, menu functions, etcs... Also do some races with the AI to get used to that as well. I'll try to get the league package finalized so that we can start doing some online races soon.

I am in. Downloading the latest version now so I can use the program in on-line multi-player mode.

    Keith,

If you need anymore beta testers, I can find some time to help out. If not, no worries, I got a skin to work on and maybe some driving skills to sort out (pffffft!).

I'm not sure what you're doing here. Once you download the track pack from me, you should put it in the packages folder and then start the game. Once in there, you should be able to select it and install it.

FYI for those that don't know..
For now, or at least until Keith changes things around, you might get frame freeze with the warning: Synchronizing while hot lapping. Keith believes it is due to someone downloading the Apexspeed package that is currently on the same server that runs the game. once we all have file or if Keith comes up with a different server - this problem should go away.
also, on some tracks (sebring being one of them) once you get into the car you might see "flickering" on your screen. try activating your framerates by using the Control key and your F key. this should stop it, you will see your framerates in upper right hand portion of your screen..
    use above if it helps.........

Okay, I downloaded the track pack from the server, where do I put it?

I'm on Windows 10, but could not find any folder titled 'packages' on my PC.

Can you please provide the full path in which to install the file?

About Us
Since 2000, ApexSpeed.com has been the go-to place for amateur road racing enthusiasts, bringing together a friendly community of racers, fans, and industry professionals. We're all about creating a space where people can connect, share knowledge, and exchange parts and vehicles, with a focus on specific race cars, classes, series, and events. Our community includes all major purpose-built road racing classes, like the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and various pro series across North America and beyond. At ApexSpeed, we're passionate about amateur motorsports and are dedicated to helping our community have fun and grow while creating lasting memories on and off the track.
