Default Can anyone identify this car?

I bought it over the weekend. A bit about it.
Motor is pull start and looks to be Chaparral 440
Comet clutch, steel tube space frame with stressed aluminum tub.
    Beam axle front end.
Rubber bushed trailing link rear end, typical solid axle and jackshaft setup.

Wondering if anyone knows anything about it. It has stickers on the body for MARRS

Awesome old F440! Post your question at f500.us. Lots of F440/500 knowledge there.

Look at the massive cooler hanging off the back. That's one way to do it!

Notice the MARRS sticker on the car.

When I started in the class in 1988 in the Washington DC Region running the MARRS series, there was one guy that would show up with a 1982 Red Devil. Cars in the class prior to 1984 did not have the rubber bushing suspension - that was legalized in 1984. The car was nice to look at and was all over the track when driven account the lack of suspension compliance. No race track is billiard table smooth (especially Summit Point at that time) and the line the car took was a function of the bumps it encountered.

That I am aware of, Red Devil (Race Cars of the Future) was the only one building F440 cars in any volume during this period. I am going to guess this is some form of 1980-83 Red Devil. Note the non-fuel cell fuel tanks on either side of the drivers compartment.

I think you have a stinger chassis, here's a picture of my dad at Road Atlanta in 1980 or 81. In his stinger. Sorry for the bad picture.

That vintage car would have come with a liquid Chaparral engine in it when it was new. The next engine that was adopted was the Kawasaki liquid 440 engine.
If you need a hand with it let me know.

Thanks Chris. I'll be looking it over this weekend to see if I can figure out what is there and what is not.
Still has a 440 Chaparral in it.

It is very likely it may be the only 'original' Stinger still in existence.

    Default Larry Shaffer

That was Larry Shaffer's Stinger that he drove in PA hillclimb series in late 70's and early 80's. He gave up on the car and went back to his Bugeye Sprite running vintage events. Except for the lack of numbers it looks exactly like it did when he drove it.
Check out the PHA Museum and Archives facebook page for pictures.
