Default Early Shift Linkage with Missing Apex Joint Worth updating?

Seems I have an early style shift linkage that does not have an Apex joint right by the CV/Axle, The shift rod is only bent around the CV.

    Is this worth updating?

It looks like it takes a new shift rod kit from Moses and the heim bracket to update it? So it looks like its about $650.

to me, seems like if you are not missing shifts and not junking gears and dog rings you might be fine. Of course, its not much money to add the joint, and its good piece of mind.
