Default LD 200 gear change question

It has been several years since I changed my gear set.
Yesterday I changed it and on completion
tried the shift lever to get all 4 gears. It worked but
was a little difficult for first gear, but with turning
the wheel a little easily went into all 4 gears.
is this normal ? Or is there a problem. Of course done
    without the clutch.
    Thanks!
