    Default Armstrong shocks

    Gents;

    I have an opportunity to buy a set of Armstrong shocks that came off a 1969 61 Lotus. Although authenticity is desired when restoring a car of that ere, there are questions regarding equipment that is nearing fifty years of age in performance and durability.

    Any thoughts are most welcomed.

    Similar shocks on my Lotus 23.... had them reworked by a guy out on west coast about 20 years ago...(still waiting on rest of work to use them..typical...)

    Don't see any issues with age if you have them "gone thru", by someone knowledgeable. Would give True Choice a call to see if anyone there willing...they did my most recent Konis...

    Default Rebuild vs oil change

    There are a lot of people who "rebuild" these shocks. But most just put in some new seals and change the oil. You want someone who will be able to change out worn valving parts etc. Not so easy to find.

    I sell and service another brand of shocks here in Australia. I have never seen a "serviced" set of these ever testing OK on my dyno. I have never found anyone who can supply parts who can fix them.

    I suspect that you have some historical paperweights.

    35 years experience , have shafts and all required parts and pieces. Complete service only as it is the only way to control the way the shock comes out and preforms like new.
    I get shocks sent to me from all over the US and Canada and have restored many Armstrong ,Bilstein shocks from the 60s thru the 80s.
    penski ,olins ,foxes, konis are serviced here also

    I have to wonder if one magically happened across a new Armstong manufactured to the original specification if it would test out ok on a modern shock dyno. They really weren't a very good shock by today's standard to begin with, correct?
