Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Double Header

Before the Royale Formula Ford Challenge Series heads into a summer break, our 3rd race of the season is upon us at the PittRace facility (http://pittrace.com/). This back to back weekend supports the PVGP Charity effort which in turn benefits the Autism Society of Pittsburgh and the Allegheny Valley School; in the past 29 years, over $4.75 million has been raised by PVGPA and last year alone was a record $405,000!

Registration is open for the PVGP Historics at PittRace, July 7-9, as well as the Schenley Park Vintage Races, July 15 &16. The PVGP Historics is on the full course and is ideal for Formula Fords. Fast, flowing, with major elevation changes and a great blind-apex turn, PittRace is one of the most satisfying and challenging circuits RFFCS will race on in 2017 and we are happy to be back. There are two sessions each day, Friday through Sunday, concluding with the Royale Formula Ford Challenge Series Race on early Sunday afternoon, combining for almost 1 ½ hours of driving. All sessions are exclusively Formula Ford – no mixing with other Formula cars or Sports Racers. If you’re looking for more track time, Thursday, July 8 is an optional test day. We’ll have the Royale Barbecue on Friday night and on Saturday night there’s a track dinner and “Flashlight Drag Racing”. Dare anyone drag race their FF? Can we get two for a FF duel? Could be good with a gear change!

The following weekend at Schenley Park we have a RFFCS exhibition event. We don’t run for series points – we do it for charity and one outrageous street circuit, complete with high-crowned roads, curbs, stone walls, trees and a few hay bales to make you feel good. Not 10/10ths racing, for sure – organizers like to say 7/10ths. Its racing the way it was when you could drive in shirtsleeves. Some love it, others not so much. (Andrew and Christian are in the love camp, while Storm is in the NO WAY camp). There’s also one of the very largest car shows ever in the park – emphasis on British cars – and a bucolic, peaceful paddock in the park. Not necessarily an RV-friendly paddock, though – check with Competition Director John Bechtol. As with PittRace, there are two sessions each day.

If you’re looking to make a week of it in Pittsburgh, there’s lots to do between PVPG special events and attractions near Pittsburgh (like visiting Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater). By entering both events you also save $100 off the combined entry fee. Whether you pay by check or enter online, you’ll need to print and mail a copy of the Entry Form along with your medical form and club racing license to the event coordinator.

And don’t forget your entry is a charitable donation that is tax deductible!
