    Default Wheel Stud

    I am building up a FST/Solo Vee and need to get my blank brake disks drilled for wheel studs.

    My question is what size wheel studs (Dia & Length) are typically used on an FST?

    About the FST wheel studs, the track by rule is 55" rear and 57" front. I found the stock track to be 55" front and rear, so the front track could be widened a couple of inches, and should be for road racing, not sure about SOLO. So, rear studs can be about 2" useable threads or so using a steel wheel. Front studs would need to be 2-3/4" useable thread if using spacers with steel wheels for a combination that gives you the 57" track. Back spacing or 'offset' of wheels is important to consider to allow for caliper clearance with 6" wide wheels, so many FST cars use a 2-1/2" back space (1/2" offset) to clear the caliper. Obviously steel and cast composite wheels might need different wheel stud useable threads so know what you'll need before you decide on the length. All the FST bolt patterns I've seen are 4 studs on 4" dia. bolt circles and use 1/2-20 threads. To be safe I used 3" long front and 2-3/4" rear which is plenty for steel wheels and should work for most composites too. One last thing, when you determine the stud lengths you need, then find the drill hole size for that particular knurl size as some longer stud lengths are not available in smaller dia. knurls.     Mike has recent experience with this issue and you should heed his advice. As for the actual stud most of us use Dorman studs because you can buy them anywhere. #s below:



    DORMAN 610-163 1/2-20 1 3/4" LONG OR
    DORMAN 610-395 1/2-20 2" LONG


    Depends upon if you are using spacers and the type of lug nuts. Go long, no problem (610-395)…
