Default Mid Ohio/Watkins Glen Super Tour Race Grouping

I know that everyone is anxious to see a VIR Sunday-style split for the Super Tours at Mid Ohio and Watkins Glen. I am too. (Road America already has a split in place.)

I have approached both regions about splitting and it is a possibility (at least for Sunday). The decision will come down to car count. I encourage all of you who would consider racing if the Group is split to go ahead and register. I'll have a call with the region leaders about a week and a half before the event at which time a decision will be made, and announced. If you don't like the decision, you can always withdraw.

My best shot of getting you what you want is for us to have a healthy entry, so please vote with your registration. Also, please know that I am actively working with Eric and Deanna in the National office to come up with a permanent solution for 2018 onward.

Race hard, race clean, & have fun,

    Steve Pence

Thank you Steve for following up on this and trying to make a difference. I know most people just bitch (myself included) so I want to make sure you know your efforts are appreciated.

For those who didn't really dig in to what happened at VIR, can you elaborate what the splits entail and for what classes?

At VIR, there was enough time on Sunday to split into two distinct race groups. FA, FB, P1 and P2 were one group, and FC, FE, and FM were the other.

The VIR incident is what prompted those older message threads (that I started) about rules enforcement, etc.

The split start at VIR on Sunday that Steve arranged did indeed help solve the problems on Saturday (plus much more behaved driving).

It makes sense.... Put a bunch of different class cars in the same race group and people will feel pressured to make optimistic passes in order to not get stuck around cars of a different class and lose touch with people you should be racing with instead of people who can screw your race weekend up. I totally get why it happens.

+1, thanks for floating this option Steve... of course, now entries are on the light side... so far... no doubt that'll change... 7 of us dreaded P2's already!
