    Default CF Van Dieman questions

I am consdiering purchasing an older Van Dieman for Vintage racing and possibly Club racing.

I ran nationals and some "Pro" races in FV and FF but stepped away 10 years ago I have had a multitude of cars but never a Van Dieman. I have a couple of questions.

Is there a source here in the US for Van Dieman suspension and body parts?

Are the 81 and 82 noses interchangeable?

What does a set of Vintage tires cost now? 10 years ago Ford tires from Penske were 450 a set.

What are typical entry fees for a Vintage weekend? Nationals were 125.

I apologize for these questions but I have not stepped a foot in a paddock in 10 years.

    Default Club VD

82 VD is a great car. I can't answer all of your questions, but I can tell you that Universal Spares in England is an excellent go-to for spares. These guys sold a ton of these cars (both FF and FC), and carry pretty much everything on the shelf, ready to ship. They also have a ton of set-up experience over many many years of running these cars. I have bought complete bodywork in gel coat colour of my choice, complete suspension, rad tubes, etc. All have been excellent. Zero complaints.

Call them up, ask for Simon.

    Cheers,
    BT

A set of vintage Hoosiers will run about $800. They came out about a month after I paid $1200 for Avons . Looking at VRG and the likes vintage races run around the $4-500 a weekend but the grins are worth it. RCFFS are a great bunch to run with also and have a HF class and the CF class has a bunch of mid-seventies and early eighties cars.

Keep in mind that an RF82 (inboard front/rear) can be less CF-eligible than an RF81 (inboard front only).

Agree that URS (Simon in particular) is the place for older Van Diemen parts/information.

    Default Vrg, vdca, & svra

If you want to race Club Ford with the above organizations, you'll need to have an '81 or older Formula Ford with at least one set of shocks outboard, no reservoirs for those shocks, with cast iron cylinder head and with Hoosier treaded tires. If '82 or newer, you can probably still race, but you will be in a different class. The good news is those Hoosiers can last a whole season or two depending on the number of races you run. And the other good news is that we are having some really good numbers in our races - two or three dozen cars at most races and we hit our limit of 50 for the Jefferson 500 next month. Good group of great people.

    Default Svra

Once again, SVRA allows double adjustable canister shocks in CF, as do many other groups now.
