Tim Pierce Takes Surprise Win at Atlanta in NAF1000 Inaugural Race

Road Atlanta, Braselton, Georgia (March 11, 2017) - Tim Pierce outlasted his rivals to takes a surprise victory at the very first race of the new North American Formula 1000 Championship presented by America Racer Tire, Sunoco Fuels, Taylor Engineering, Jongbloed Racing Wheels, George Dean Engines, Rilltech Racing, Wilwood Disc Brakes, Rebel Gear, and Hurley Race Products.

On a day that saw temperatures in the low 50's, a cold track, and overcast threatening skies Alex Mayer took the top qualifying time in Formula 1000 in his American Racer Tire JDR with a time of 1:24.1.

The race started as sprinkles of rain fell over the competitors as they took the green flag. Polesitter Alex Mayer developed mechanical troubles early ending his chances of victory. Jose Gerardo in the Galmer took over from Mayer only to have battery issues slow him and ruin his chances for claiming the top spot.
