Default Stohr double shifter cable vs single cable

My car chassis #20 and my brother's chassis #9 have the old-style double push-pull cables to operate the shifter. In 7 seasons of racing, we've each had 1 failure.

Later cars went to a much heavier single cable.

I have all the parts to switch to the single cable system.

Is switching to the single cable an improvement?

    Thanks in advance.

Ivin, we sell the single cable push-pull systems at least 10:1 over the dual pull cables.

    Default Go single

I echo what Stan said - a little drag on either cable and the shift pawls hesitate to reset and you get a mis-shift.

Perhaps unnecessarily, I made two mechanical shift systems out of thin wall tubing. They worked perfectly all the time.

Thanks for the advice guys. I am going to convert my car.

Stan - do you have all the parts needed if we decide to convert my brother Pete's car?

Thanks Ivin, and yes, I have one conversion kit in stock. More kits are just a few days to stock. Stan

    Default update

Both our cars have been updated to the single cable system and tested.

Feel is improved.....neutral is easier to find.....perhaps 25% less paddle travel is required.....installation is slightly cleaner.

    Overall a worthwhile upgrade.

THE BEST mechanical shift I ever used was in an original Radical Prosport - left hand shifter lever with a rod going straight back to the shift shaft and lil stubby sub-lever. Heim joints, thin wall tube as Rob mentioned above.
No bell crank BS like in original RFR, no super heavy feel with mechanical / bulky paddle, and the drag associated with a cable(s).
The next best would be the BRD cable and engine mount plate for that end.
One thing I find goofy on the Stohr F1000 is the hole for the shift lever pivot blows straight through the chassis tube.
I know from other cars owned and driven there is a better way to sort out a shift lever pivot - not sure why they chose to do it this way - cost I suspect, but it is far from optimal.
