Default CotA - Long box or Shortbox?

I'm considering running the Majors at CotA. Should I put the longbox on?

Unless you have designed your motor to make power at 8000 RPM I would go with the long box.

Perhaps Scott can expand on that. I certainly would think it was shortbox. In FF, we ran Road Atlanta type gears there, not Road America type. F1 cars make it look fast but lots of slow and medium speed corners, and lots of 4th gear acceleration .... and the fastest part of the track is uphill. Besides, does everybody not run shortboxes everywhere these days?

The back straight is .62 mi long with very tight turns on each end. The front straight is shorter again with tight turns on both ends not to mention the climb at the end.

I an going to venture the guess that you would be lucky to hit 6700 without a draft on the back straight. Steven Davis knows the answer.

Well, my strategy would be to run the long box because of the back straight, or between T11 & T12. It is not only quite long but the last 60% of it is down hill. Additionally it is likely the last place where there would be enough room to make a pass, via the draft, before the start finish line. IMO in a tightly contested Vee race that could be the key area. I would probably run the short third to help in the tight stuff.

With that being said I have never driven there and might be completely wrong.

The box of choice for FV would be the short box with a .26 3rd. You will SUCK with a long box there.
