    Default "Elliptical" Steering Quick Release?

Has anyone used one of the new "elliptical" style steering wheel quick releases? Supposedly, these should have less play than the more traditional splined models.

    OMP makes one: http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motors...ing-wheel-boss

Momo makes one too (although it looks too large to use in a formula car): https://www.saferacer.com/products/m...nt=25893443715

And Go Race also makes a non-splined version, but I can't exactly figure out how this one works: http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motors...g-boss-weld-on

I have a no-named splined model on my car, and it drives me nuts because there is tons of slop.

    Thanks!

The GoRace one still has splines, but they are there to align the ball-type detents ( the spherical recesses you see). should work fine, as long the the section in the actuator is a ramp that can take up the eventual wear.

Rothsport out of Portland makes the best one I've used. Pricy though.

Huge following in Porsche world as he's a Porsche guy.

We just installed one for a customer, very nice design. Like other's have said; spendy.
As far as play, there is none. They have the ellipse (?) on top of a taper so there is no way they can have play. As they wear any potential play is taken up by the design.

That looks almost the same as the Momo unit. Same price too. Neither will fit in a formula car.

Besides adding a little in total length the is no reason they won't fit. Make a weld-on adapter for the column, use 3 of the 6 holes on the steering wheel, good to go.

Mark Williams makes some really nice pieces for a very fair price. Quality is first rate.

I like the SPA involute installed on my Crossle. Very good quality.

I guess this is viable. But seems a little kludgy.

Has anyone used the OMP unit? It's similar to the Momo/Rothsport unit, in that it's not splined. But it comes with a weld on adapter for a formula car, and is designed to fit a smaller formula car wheel.

    Thanks again
