Default FF/CFF options for GL/Cen Div (lets discuss)

Anyone want to discuss options for racing a FF/CFF in this part of the country? (is it too early for this topic?)

If your planning on Indy, then 2017 is a no brainer.. Pick a qualifying path, and forge ahead.. But, if not, I'm curious to hear what people think. Beyond Majors, the waters seem a little muddy, unless your committed to stepping away from SCCA, or putting in some serious tows..

Combined Cen Div, and GL Div participation numbers in 2016 were dismal.
FF avg. 2.3 cars while CFF was at .7 (these are only regional numbers, no Majors)

I know there are some groups enjoying success with car counts..

RCFFS, VRG, and the Ontario Canadian series all seem to be getting numbers, but with the exception of the RCFFS Mid-O event, and you could make a case for Mosport for us Metro Detroiters, most of these events are near a 10 hour tow one way.. (I'll skip the multiple tire options for now)

Steve B's EWC did a great job getting people and cars together. With Indy in 2017, and some early excitement for the 50th building anyone think something similar could be supported again? Or is the thinking that there are just not enough cars/racers and it's pretty much Majors or bust in these divisions?

Just curious what people think. Not only for 2017, but beyond..

    Default CFF experience

Hi Dave, interesting topic. As my Tiga is a 1981 car I am eligible for vintage groups which really adds to my options. I already have four weekends on my 2017 calendar: VSCDA in May and September, SVRA at Indy in June and Right Coast at M-O in July. I assume I'll add an SCCA Regional or two when the GLDiv schedule comes out so I'm pretty happy with my options.

I don't think you can go wrong with either of the Series that I have been exposed to.

If you have a club ford or older car, then the RCFFS is a really good option, and it would be worth stretching your travel a bit to support it. Good racing and a lot of fun. The open tire rules, and vintage combined events, may be a turn off if you take it too seriously.

If you have a serious National quality program then the FRP F1600 Series is the place to be. Two M-Os and PITT give 3 close races to MI and the other tracks are all worth towing to. We are making a real effort to organize and promote to the Masters and more serious Club racers so I am expecting some really good F1600 fields.

Being a FF racer in the SE, NE, or Great Lakes areas is pretty awesome right now.

I see the RCFFs and SVRA as the easy button for 2017. After my first RCFFs at MidO I could easily justify 7-10hr tows for the quality events that Joe organizes. Fortunately/Unfortunately, to get to the runoffs this year I will be staying mostly in the division to qualify and get my car (RF85) to work on radials.

Would there be interest in joining with the Great Lakes Championship series? Currently we're FC/CFC, but I wonder if we could field a second class?

Default FF/CFF options for GL/Cen Div (lets discuss)

    Hi,

There are drivers who participate in the Right Coast series who would really like to have another event besides Mid Ohio that is held somewhere in the GL/Cen Div. When the Right Coast Formula F Series first organized ourselves as DUFFUS we had envisioned having events that were "near, middle, and far". The tracks were Summit Point, Pittsburgh International Race Complex and Mid Ohio. Pick your zip code and you can place them in the near, middle and far categories.

we, the Right Coast series would love to support another race in the GL/Cen Div. I personally love Grattan and would go there for sure as I did with the EWC if we could get a significant entry for a weekend in Michigan.

If we want to seriously consider something like this; then let's begin the conversation. Phil Kingham and Dave Harmison are charter members/brain trusters of the Right Coast series. If drivers in GL/Cen Div would contact Phil or Dave and put something together; we would certainly try to put something together.

The Right Coast series has already accepted invitations for an early June 2017 race at NJMP Lightning, a Fourth of July event at Mid Ohio and late July event at PIRC with Formula Race Promotions. If we can get a track with some good spacing (usually at least 4 weeks apart); then we would certainly promote it with our drivers.

But, it will only work if we can get some good participation from the GL/Cen Div drivers.

    What do you think?

We'd love to have you join the RCFFS and as Joe said, we might expand the RCFFS if we have interest.

I think you have my phone number, give me a call.

I know I'm going to get shot down in flames for this one but if only all these FF series ran on the same tire.
