It's simple, and it's been said before. Go back to 1980 and use the damn phone.

Strange person, I just canceled the PayPal payment.
Ironically they wouldn't answer the phone.

Recently, I survived an unpleasant attempted theft transaction in the amount of $1.5k. Fortunately, I learned a lesson long ago at a minimal cost about “Friends” vs. “Merchandise & Services” through PayPal. Numbers count on Apex. We’re family.

yes, some people don't realize that sending money thru paypal friends and family has no protections from fraud. If you used paypal friends and family with a credit card you may have some recourse. paying the fee for merch and services has protections. It may take a few days but you'll get your money back, even if you used pp for facebook marketplace items.

OTOH, if somebody has a long history here I've never had a problem shipping an item just on the promise that the check was in the mail.

If someone that you haven't already done business with specifically asks for friends and family, run the other way. The fees are so minimal that any reasonable seller would just eat the cost or build it into the price of their product.

When we bought our car, the seller only wanted payment via Venmo.

I’d never heard of it then so offered to wire transfer to his account instead — but he didn’t want us knowing the ABA number that’s right there on the bottom of every check anyway.

After a lifetime wait to buy, we ignored my gut feelings to walk, our good nature taken advantage of at every turn, and have regretted it ever since.

Sad to realize that distrust may be prudent, which flies in the face of my lifetime belief that others who have no trust is probably a sign that they’re not to be.

I despise people who screw others. Follow your instincts better than we did. Realizing dreams is supposed to be uplifting.
