    Default Fun One Watkins Glen

Hey guys, anybody else coming to the Glen this weekend?
Only 2 CF and 6 FF so far, what gives?

Right Coasts fearless leader Joe Marcinski has promised to appear, look for his beautiful freshly rebuilt McLaren Orange [as their many F1 Indy and fearsome Can Am cars were for a number of years before sponsorship demands made them the rolling billboards we have all come to expect and accept...] Royale after its lengthy and at times seemingly painful gestation as he begins to get acquainted with his new racer.
But that still leaves us at 3 CF and 6 FF as JD points out.
But JD, how about we, Right Coast, do as the FVEE guys and their Challenge Cup group has done and rally the troops in 2017 and get a FF/CF only race, all we need is 20 or 25 entries I think and a bit of lobbying within the region.

    Default CF/FF only

I think you are right Mike.
It was great that the race planning committee for South Jersey Region allowed the CF/FF only group to have two separate races at the Lightning Circuit in June.

It's tough to add race groups as that usually means 3 sessions for each over a weekend, but it is a lot easier to slot in a dedicated race here and there.

Using the format we(SJR) did at NJMP worked really well. It gave us an actual total of 4 races, two with the usual weekend race grouping(one qualifying race and one "feature" race) and two dedicated to RCFFS. Include the morning qualifying session on Saturday for a total of 5 on track sessions and it seemed to make everyone smile.

Hope you are also planning to join with Right Coast and VRG at the Glen Grand Prix circuit October 7th to 9th. We have 135mins of track time + 25 minutes Royale Formula Ford Challenge Series sponsored by Hoosier for eligible cars. All for $500. If you run the Fun One you should have "your eye in" for October! Plus the Friday night Royale Challenge party for all F1600 runners (free) and a Saturday night VRG party ($40 extra).

We have 26 entries to date, 21 from VRG and 5 from Right Coast. We believe VRG will get another 3 to 5 entries. Joe reckons we could see 15 to 20 from Right Coast. Great opportunity to demonstrate grids of yore and who does not like The Glen!

    The Fun One, 2016 edition.
First, congratulations to the Championship Cup FVEE guys, the VEE field as around 30 cars total, fantastic job on getting those cars and drivers out, well done !
The other side of that coin is the frustration level when climbing the esses behind a three wide VEE scrum and we are on the brakes in 2nd gear rather than flat in 3rd shifting into 4th......
But coming up behind one of these gangs is certainly interesting watching the bobbing and weaving I must admit.
That all said as ever at the Glen, especially on the short course, FF and CF finishing positions are commonly determined by who got balked the most recently or the worst. Not that there is on purpose balking, they are peddling as fast as they can, the closing speeds can be a shock to both parties at times I must say...
Unfortunately this huge VEE field as culled significantly in both the long course combined FF/CF/FV race Sat early afternoon and further in their stand alone feature at the end of the day.
I think by Sundays short course there was 20 Vees on the grid, down for 30.
Happily no injuries that I am aware of anyway.
But an interesting and enjoyable weekend of Glen racing n the wonderful new pavement, smooth and grippy everywhere.

Now us Right Coast guys with our slicks and some with Honda motors are invited to run to our rules and specs on October 7-9 with the VRG treaded tired guys and so far a half dozen of us are going, hopefully more will sign up in the time remaining, the tack continues as one of those places that challenges and rewards you as a driver.
