    Default Dallara F399 F3 - SOLD

Unfortunately, I am moving and would like to sell this car:

    http://www.apexspeed.com/forums/show...592#post513592

Yes, I bought this car at the asking price. Yes, it is in quite excellent condition. There's hardly a scratch on the carbon tub. My research shows this car was only run half of the year 2000 in USF3 and then put away as a backup car. If you see pictures from back then, this one is the red, white, and blue car.

Unfortunately, I doubt I'll be able to run it since it looks like we're moving out west. I highly regret selling it.

    $20K.

The rear scavenge port O-rings had leaked by with oil from the engine ending up all through the bottom of the tub. I took the planks off and cleaned up all that oil and replaced the O-rings. No longer leaking. It was missing brake pads, and new ones are installed. Also missing helmet surround, belts are long out of date, and missing the little air diverters that go in front of the sidepods. No logbook - was only pro car in 2000. I've not started it, but the engine ran just before I bought it. This is by far the coolest car I ever had.

Additional pictures added later and on request.

$20K will do it. Life seems to be getting in the way, and I highly suspect I'll not race again. Moving to ABQ, NM.

Here's some pictures of it now back together.

No chance to be competitive in FA.

Jay, agree likely uncompetitive in FA. Without the restrictor, it's 217-220 HP. More like FB performance given the 1200 lb weight.

On the other hand, I would argue that this applies: FA spec line E: Volkswagen SOHC (which this engine is). Unrestricted with displacement up to 2135cc at 1190 lbs. This car would probably then be competitive in FA.

Frankly I would love to rant here about the shortsighted protectionist racket that currently exists in SCCA, specifically carried out by the FSRAC and CRB. This car is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. The line item in the FA GCR table specifies F3 cars are allowed with 30mm restrictor (yes, there are two line items that could apply to this car). Ridiculously stupid. End result is a car slower even than FB. I'd run this car in FA without a restrictor, and if I got protested and lost... then I'd run in vintage or somewhere else. The same thing happens in FC, where the racket protects the now more powerful Zetec over the Pinto. And again in FB, where the racket wanted to protect the Suzuki. Any wonder why people like me, passionate about the sport we love, decide to walk away? The GCR reads like and is approaching the volume in the US tax code. (yes, a bit of a stretch!). You are strangling us.

Bottom line is this car should be allowed to run under FA rules, spec line E, with VW SOHC at 2135cc unrestricted at 1190 lbs. It will probably be competitive then.

Jim, thanks for the comments on the LD200 below.

    Default Agree

Rob surprised to see you need to sell. You just bought the thing. I strongly agree with your comments re FA and FC. The other thread we are all reading about entries and "happiness" and getting guys out to races ought to read your comments and others as well. Here's a simple example. At Pitt crewing for the Pro weekend. Went over to the kart facility there and met some fathers and sons. Said I was with the formula guys out on track. I was well received. One dad said how come "we" don't make it more welcoming for them to come visit. All the while Pro is there AND SCCA autocross event and NOBODY came around. Just me. I am the kind of guy that has to make and effort w/strangers. And "we" wonder where or even how there is no new blood. Christ make an effort.
BTW very satisfied with buying a LD from Rob 2 mos ago.

    Default bodywork off

    Rob:
I've had all the bodywork off. It's very well built. The car is a professionally built racecar. Sandy built the 2.2 motor for me. It made a big difference in grunt out of the corners. It's not a full aero car but has good aero. You'll never get a car that goes this well and is as well constructed for 20k. End of story.

You're spot on I've seen this car in person and was very impressed and interested I didn't ask Rob to sit inside for fear I was going home with two cars. Man if I had an empty bay I'd buy it,if you've ever owned and driven a modern Atlantic this car would make you drool, good thing Rob didn't start it I wouldn't have been able to resist.
