    Default Formula Car Insurance

Heacock keeps changing their insurance carrier with attendant price increases. They now have no race car specific policies. Does anyone have their formula race car insured with Hagerty? Looking for options.

I have had Hagerty for about 10 years.

Pay about $150 a year for $15K agreed value that is in effect when the car is anywhere but on the racing surface proper. Pits, paddock, towing, storage, etc etc are covered.

I have hagerty as well. I have an agreed upon amount of $35k and it's around $300 a year for everywhere but the racing surface.

I have Hagerty also. Just got it. Similar pricing to those above and an agreed upon value. But, do not use their site to generate a quote. You will need to call. Their site is all centered around street driven cars. It developed a quote for my Swift with liability and everything. I called and said I would be happy to sign up for that policy but I did not expect them to honor it. We all got a good laugh and then they spent about 15 minutes on the phone getting all of the information. A few emailed pictures later and a credit card and I was insured. So far, I would recommend them. I have never filed a claim so have no experience there and I hope it stays that way. It is covered in storage, in the paddock, and being towed on the trailer.

I'm curious on your policy and if it differs from mine. I pay a little less than that for $35k coverage and that includes in my garage, in the trailer, pit and paddock (everything but racing surface)

I read an article about 2-years ago that referred to this as "S-T-P" coverage (Storage-Trailering-Paddock).
There was, however, mention of a company that would also insure 'on-track' but I don't recall that company's name or any mention of premium costs.
If anyone can weigh-in with that info, it would be much appreciated.

From the quotes I've heard, you would have to total the car within 3 race weekends to break even on the premium. I think some of the Indy teams use it and have some sort of bulk discount on the premium. Something like 10% of the value of the car per race is the premium?

The other issue is the deductible is insanely high and only worth using if the car is a total write off.

    Thanks.
Vntage Vees are VERY rarely "totaled" and only valued at $10-15k.
Sounds like the standard "STP" coverage would suit.
    Thanks again.

    Charlie,
My Hagerty off track coverage is $351 for $75,000. They also include $10,000 for spare parts for $32. I found the coverage contract to be written a little clearer in what is covered.

    Jerry,

Thanks. I just spoke to Hagerty and they wanted $3372 a year to cover the Shadow at $250k. Heacock is well less than $1800.

Maybe I got someone who is not familiar with the race car end of it as she had to have all sorts of info about drivers in household and could not understand why the car was in CA and I live in TN. Do you have a contact that you are using I could call?

    Thanks again,

Did she tell you the policy covered pit, paddock, trailer. etc?? Sure sounds like you were quoted for a daily driver...

Well, it could reflect my original address in a litigious state (Cali) or my current address in a rental property in a higher crime area (JAX, NC), not sure which.

In all fairness to Hagerty, I called and left a message. Phone call was returned by someone who knew what she was talking about.

$250k, zero deductible, STP, all for $1247 a year.

Disclosure - Heacock wants $1638 with $1000 deductible.

It pays to talk to the right people. The quote of $3772 per year was for a street car, even though I was clear it was a race car.
